I bought the first 3 Fighting Fantasy game books for my nephew in the new editions and they arrived this morning and the illustrations have had a contemporary makeover and I was so upset that I went and spent $100 on ebay for 1983 editions of The Warlock of Firetop Mountain and Citadel of Chaos.

Okay 40k fan theory. It starts with my feelings about the idea that the Chaos Gods work the same way as gods in Discworld. I don't think this is quite right. They're not fueled by belief, they're fueled by their associated emotions. Believers might foster those emotions as dedication to their gods.

Seeing discourse about Honor Among Thieves lately and while it did a very good job of expressing what playing a game like D&D is like, it left me feeling nothing, and I think the reason is D&D 5e's rules and tropes create this sort of historical void that my brain just slides off.

"Everyone in 40k is bad" is an incredibly boring take and I'm sick of hearing it. Two things are true that are more interesting. 1. The 40k designers introduced flaws to most factions to give players with the same army reasons to play each other. 2. Different factions embody different themes.

I went rummaging through my archive from the old bad website and dug up all my @drilmagic.bsky.social posts from back there. Feel like this one has become relevant for some reason.
