As a Fortunate Fall enjoyer you probably already have your eye on What We Are Seeking, but just in case, it's excellent.

Now that the stats are out, we can see that Best Short Story did in fact receive more nominations than Best Related Work (507 vs. 439), but the votes in the former case were a lot more spread out and less concentrated (549 works vs. 250), so that's why it took fewer nominations to be in the top six.

Sweet, strange uncitizens: ONCE I WAS MADE OF EARTH is here, an epic fantasy that's been ratling in my brain for years now and that I'm putting out into the world serially outside of the capitalist publishing apparatus. Share, and read, and comment. archiveofourown.org/works/91618061

The painting "The Moment" by James Warden, with the text "Once I Was Made of Earth" on it by Rivers Solomon. The painting is in the romantic style, quite dramatic and dark in tone if not colour, with a horse rearing with fear in its eyes as a snake launches to bite it, against a back drop of pink and blue mountains.

An exciting image glitch here, so the alt text was especially useful.

Sumana's alt text under an image which is just a series of faint vertical grey lines, like an endless expanse of corduroy, or an old television tuned to a dead channel.

The Perfume Genius cover of Low's "Point of Disgust" isn't doing exactly what you're talking about, because the backing is Alan Sparhawk, reprising his role on the original, and not Mimi Parker, who sang lead, but I do think it belongs in the conversation.

Here's a poem my friend wrote about masculinizing hormones.

Andar Wärje
New Home

Testosterone has made me softer than
I was before. Those days of holding in--
stopped breath, stuck voice, choked bone-stick, brittle-thin,
my reach an ever-tightening wingspan,
ribs locked, a dim self-hating prison, and
a Bluebeard's cave of murdered selves within.
Those nights, my racing heart like rats would spin
inside my hollow chest walls--how it ran!
Yet quiet now, its frantic claws gone still
as shafts of sunlight beat into its cage.
My breast unfurls like crocus buds part chill
soil after finger; soft, thick fur like sage-
brush pelts down hills to wide wet lakes that fill
with snow-melt. Old ice flows to a new age.

The torment nexus meme is misleading in that it suggests that our technoligarchs are capable of actually building anything. All that happens is that they use old sfnal concepts as a shared language—that old sensawunda, now bottled—for marketing their quite ordinary torment products
