Read this article from my friend Lewis about Ben, the real person behind PAC. I was there for a decent amount of this, was at his first matches and was great seeing him, for it turns out, the last time at Les's funeral. Still in shock. cultaholic.com/posts/rememb...

Remembering My Friend Ben, The International Wrestling Superstar
To most of the rest of the world, he was PAC. Or Neville. Or ‘The Man That Gravity Forgot’. But, to me, he was simply Ben, the local lad I spent a great deal of time with during some of my most format...

Keep seeing posts on Facebook and Insta about the incredible billion dollar box office the Michael Jackson biopic achieved and the tone is "case closed😎" like he can't possibly have been a child rapist coz his hagiographic fluff piece made a bunch of money.

There's something wonderful about him commuting to Tokyo or LA or Mexico City from there. Wrestling at Wembley Stadium then heading back to the safety of obscurity. He was 40. 40. This is so shit.

A humble and quiet lad, shy really but more comfortable in front of audiences, which is something we chatted about when I last saw him (at Les's funeral) as it's something we both felt. He'd lived in Japan and America for years but, as soon as he could, he moved back. To Walbottle I think.

This picture is outside St Joseph's in Gateshead where he first trained, he was a teenager then and a freak athlete. I think this was taken when he was with WWE? But I'll remember him as someone who, despite his gifts, never bought into the hype, partly because I don't think he believed it.

Just awful news this morning. There will be loads written about what an athlete Ben was, and he was. A top ten most spectacular wrestler of all time, travelled the world, was amazing as recently as two days ago when he worked a pay per view.

I know that Toby Young et al thrive on the notoriety and that the best thing to do is not give them the oxygen of publicity. But I'm more excited about the day he inevitably deprives himself of oxygen when his asphyxiwank goes wrong.

I hereby officially offer Toby Young out for a fight. And not for charity, for an actual fight. So, Toby, I'm sure you learned jousting or some shit at the school daddy begged you into, so let me formally ask if you want your fucking go?

Lee Kyle @handle.invalid · 20/08/2026
First they came for Toby Young and I was like "Fucking get in! Destroy the fucker, go on, kick him right in the balls until they atrophy!" And I took great joy and laughed and laughed til I was sick in his worthless face and then I laughed and was sick more. And I was glad the camera for him.

Not even messing, I'm in Nevis in a few months, might ask if he wants his fucking go. If he's not dead by then.

All good points but I think we should also be talking about the big venues and Edinburgh uni making fat stacks whilst underpaying their staff not to mention Fringe society exec dir getting £100k per year whilst we lowly comics must pay £300-400 just to be in the brochure

Lee is a fantastic comedian. I bought the audiobook version of it last week and found it to be fantastic and inciteful. If ya wanna do comedy that's more long formed and storytelling based. Check this book out. It's a great price too.

Rather than offering generic motivation or rigid “rules”, the book focuses on how comedians can work with their own brains, instincts, and limitations instead of against them. It challenges commonly accepted wisdom around writing and structuring comedy shows,

There are many great books that tell you how to write and perform stand up comedy but ‘How To Make A Stand Up Show’ is the only book that talks you through the creation of a festival show or stand up special.

The idea that education is the same thing as job-training and no more than that is so disheartening. Getting a job isn’t the goal. Human flourishing is the goal. Getting a job might be a step to flourishing, (or not) but to think “job” is the top of the mountain rather than base camp is so sad.

“When you look at someone through rose-coloured glasses, all the red flags just look like flags.” That’s a fucking quote man.

Lee Kyle @handle.invalid · 16/04/2025
And right to the end, you think you know how it finishes. But, unlike other shows, he’s not getting off the hook like that. Because we all have to keep going. I’ve seen nothing like this.
100
Lee Kyle @handle.invalid · 16/04/2025
It’s about fame and generational trauma and addiction and guilt and toxic positivity and death and loneliness and abuse and the idea of ‘good trauma’ and growth and relationships and a million more things.
110
Lee Kyle @handle.invalid · 16/04/2025
But you still have to live. And I’ve just talked about the main character. There’s so much more. So much. Characters that you think are just comedic foils are actually deeply complex and deeply real. It’s funny and devastating.
100
Lee Kyle @handle.invalid · 16/04/2025
But you are also offered a glimmer of hope always. By the idea that if you can accept your flaws and make genuine efforts, change is possible. Even if it’s the hardest thing. And even though it may not happen. And that even if it does, nobody owes you forgiveness.
100
Lee Kyle @handle.invalid · 16/04/2025
And because you see his back story you do understand why he does things because humans are complicated. And, unlike other shows, he’s not an anti hero. You aren’t invited to grudgingly think he’s still pretty cool. You are invited to find his actions disgusting. And you do.
100
Lee Kyle @handle.invalid · 16/04/2025
But through the series, some of his actions are so unforgivable you see him differently.

Lee Kyle @handle.invalid · 16/04/2025
It’s a sitcom but it’s a sitcom where things matter. Where everything matters, where it’s not enough to say something glib. And BoJack himself is a real person (and a horse). He’s the main character so you naturally empathise with him.
100
Lee Kyle @handle.invalid · 16/04/2025
Seemingly minor details come back years later, your actions matter. Characters change and grow.
100
Lee Kyle @handle.invalid · 16/04/2025
You know sitcoms? Everything is wrapped up in 30 minutes, things work out in the end, big gestures solve everything and you never need learn and grow. Not in this. Everything has consequences and nobody is left off the hook.
100
Lee Kyle @handle.invalid · 16/04/2025
It’s the most heartpunchingly real thing I’ve ever seen. Even more than real life. So it’s about a horse who was a star in a Cosby Show style sitcom in the nineties and still sees life through the prism of sitcoms. He’s stuck in the mindset he was in when he first got famous.
100
Lee Kyle @handle.invalid · 16/04/2025
And it’s none of that. It’s setting you up for something different where you’ll never see what’s coming.
100
Lee Kyle @handle.invalid · 16/04/2025
It’s a silly cartoon. It is. In the first few episodes you’ll think you know what this is. A lighthearted but of fun, with wacky side characters and a will they/won’t they love story. You’ll think the jokes are okay but not early Simpsons funny by any means.

Lee Kyle @handle.invalid · 16/04/2025
If pushed, it’s probably not too much of a stretch to say it’s the best piece of art I’ve ever experienced. And I’ve seen the Michelangelo’s David and all my gigs. I know it’s from a few years ago now and not obscure, but if you haven’t seen it I recommend it to anyone. Why? Loads of reasons.

Lee Kyle @handle.invalid · 16/04/2025
Prisoner: Cell Block H will always be my favourite show, it’s too tied into my life, memories and experiences for it not to be, and it’s great. But BoJack is the best show I’ve ever seen.
