Talarico and Mamdani appear as different as night and day, yet they are both teaching us new ways to talk to Americans. Let's hope other candidates are watching and learning.

Susan Collins is always horrified by the predictable results of her own vote, which means Mainers who genuinely care about Susan Collins should elect Troy Jackson as he won’t vote for things that wind up upsetting Susan Collins, unlike Susan Collins

We could have had a largely fine Connor Lamb but a lot of people, myself included, got bamboozled by Fetterman’s anti-establishment credentials and our distrust of “centrist Dems”. There’s a lesson there about treating outsider candidates with a little more caution than we do.

People are falling for the DSA vs Establishment trap again. Didn’t we learn our lesson in 2016 and 2024? It’s the establishment’s job to build a coalition that can win EVERYWHERE. In some places, that means ultra-progressive. In others, it means establishment. The tent is big enough for all of us.

there is no such thing as "age verification." All "age verification" is actually "identity verification." You can coat it in glitter and "privacy-preserving" wrapping paper. But in the end, mandating age verification means mandating surveillance be built into software and hardware. Period.

The chart tells the story: Recent economic history is weaker than we thought, and July's new number is downright concerning.
Bar chart titled "Today's new jobs data really change the view of recent history. We're barely creating any jobs." showing monthly growth in nonfarm payrolls. Total nonfarm employment fell by 23,000 jobs in July 2026, the first decline since February and a sharp reversal from earlier estimates showing a 57,000 gain. The labor market has weakened significantly, with June's figures also revised sharply downward from 129,000 to just 20,000 jobs added, revealing the recent job growth has been far weaker than initially reported.

“This sentence has five words. Here are five more words. Five-word sentences are fine. But several together become monotonous. Listen to what is happening. The writing is getting boring. The sound of it drones. It’s like a stuck record. The ear demands some variety. Now listen. I vary the sentence length, and I create music. Music. The writing sings. It has a pleasant rhythm, a lilt, a harmony. I use short sentences. And I use sentences of medium length. And sometimes, when I am certain the reader is rested, I will engage him with a sentence of considerable length, a sentence that burns with energy and builds with all the impetus of a crescendo, the roll of the drums, the crash of the cymbals–sounds that say listen to this, it is important.”

The Koch brothers have donated more than $5 billion to humanitarian non-profits. You'll find the same is true for every major GOP donor outside Silicon Valley. Eliminating federal and state aid and moving that money to charites controlled by the GOP is part of the dismantling of government.
