You can use Fedora KDE as well. I'd recommend it over Kubuntu since Canonical has a history of highly questionable decisions

I respectfully disagree. The punchline to me seems to be "haha current quantum factorizations are a joke", which is more or less the case especially given the extremely exaggerated headlines. This isn't to say that quantum computing isn't a threat. Perhaps they should have made that point clearer.

I believe rebase does a 3-way merge for you as well

iczero @iczero.mice.tel · 11/07/2025
Isn't a pile of patch files pretty close to maintaining a fork, squashing whatever commits are on top, and then running rebase every once in a while? You'd get the extra benefit of being able to do everything from git. You can maintain multiple patches as a set of commits too.

Rust community coming strongly in favor of child labor in trash collection
Reddit post: Have we ever considered allowing orphans in bin crates? The main reason for not allowing them is that a dep anywhere in your tree could add a trait and break everything, to put it simply. That's a good reason to disallow them in libs, but for.

Which part of "we will fix every breakage that C causes in Rust" do you not understand? That is their promise to you. If they "disappear", as you say, just `CONFIG_RUST=n` and call it a day. All they ask in return is that you do not actively exclude them from everything.

Synology QuickConnect relies on Let's Encrypt for direct and regional wildcard certs, but the company isn't listed as an ISRG sponsor. It feels scummy to build a commercial product that depends on a nonprofit service like Let's Encrypt and not financially support it.

I assume that cryptographic primitives will eventually improve. before ECC, RSA also had larger signatures, larger keys, and was generally more computationally intensive.
030
iczero @iczero.mice.tel · 28/12/2024
however there is a decent chance that post-quantum signature schemes will be improved in the future to have smaller signatures.
110
iczero @iczero.mice.tel · 28/12/2024
or I mean you could just let the quantum computers forge your skeets because that might be funny
100
iczero @iczero.mice.tel · 28/12/2024
larger skeets mean the firehose will hose more data which could cause problems for some servers because their internet may not be fast enough to receive all skeets in real time from the firehose
120
iczero @iczero.mice.tel · 28/12/2024
cryptographic signatures are used to ensure that your skeets are in fact your skeets and not faked by someone else. longer signatures mean that your skeet data will be bigger. all skeets need to fit down the Bluesky firehose which is a continuous stream of every skeet ever.
120
iczero @iczero.mice.tel · 28/12/2024
post-quantum signature schemes such as the NIST PQC winner CRYSTALS-Dilithium produce signature sizes substantially larger than "traditional" signature schemes; ECDSA (not quantum secure) signatures are 64 bytes, whereas Dilithium2 signatures are 2420 bytes, or ~37.8x longer.

20 years ago we were suing teenagers for millions of dollars because they were torrenting a single Metallica album and now billionaires are demanding the free right to every work in history, so that they can re-sell it. The law only ever serves capital.
