Scavenging Attraction of a Cyclopoid Copepod to Zooplankton Carcasses Hiromichi Suzuki, Jotaro Urabe ▶️ doi.org/10.1111/1440... behavioral experiment/ chemical cue/ detritus chain
Graphical abstract: We experimentally demonstrated that a cyclopoid copepod, Thermocyclops taihokuensis, can function as a planktonic scavenger in freshwater ecosystems. T. taihokuensis actively approached and attacked cladoceran carcasses and was attracted to carcass-derived chemical cues, indicating that chemical cues are key for detecting carcasses. These results suggest that T. taihokuensis contributes to both grazing and detrital food chains.

Postdoc offer 2026 - National-scale modelling of lake warming and water-level dynamics under climate change

The project will combine in situ data (A), remote sensing (B), and modelling (C) to model the 1D lake thermal structure of at least 210 reservoirs (D), i.e., sites for which a proof of concept is available. The model outputs will then be analysed to assess reservoir responses to climate change and water level management practices at the national scale.Your future lunch view?
