Love my little old laptop. Bought it second hand for a couple hundred bucks and it's been worth every cent (once I'd deleted windows and installed Linux). I gave Ubuntu a Windows skin though so it looks the same, it just runs fast now. I figured that way I'll manage to annoy both camps at once. 😁

Battery electric vehicle share of the car market rose past 30% in the EU in August beating any suggestion that appetite for EVs is waning. There were 203,000 electric cars registered in 16 of EUs key markets, a 54% increase on the same month in 2025 www.electrifying.com/blog/article... #ActOnClimate

Countries, communities, people respond inconsistently to quantified risks. @rahmstorf.bsky.social points out that a community might pass on a nuclear plant but countries can't organize to address a 50% risk (he estimates) that Atlantic currents that warm Europe disappear.
"In all other areas in society, we have a very different approach to risk," he said. "If you want to build a bridge or a nuclear power plant, you accept maybe a one-in-10,000 risk of a bad accident happening. Whereas with the AMOC, 've for decades warned that a 5% risk, as we saw it then, is too high. And now we're talking more like 50% or more."

Today I’m grateful for modern life. Thomas Hobbes' 1651 book "Leviathan" talks about the past: "In such condition, there is no place for industry… no society; and which is worst of all, continual fear, and danger of violent death; and the life of man, solitary, poor, nasty, brutish, and short."
