See, this is how you know someone wasn’t on TikTok. Earlier this week TikTok was doing polyamory discourse, and just this morning I saw a video saying that Americans hyper-focusing on the U.S. being the worst country ever is just repackaged American exceptionalism. You can’t escape discourse in 2025

True, and it’s demonstrably bad for attention spans and mental health. However, banning it outright (especially in this way politically) also feels bad. In these tenuous economic times, it also benefitted a lot of people. And it was a powerful tool for community building. So idk what to think atm

Actually, I saw nothing but comments and videos from people saying how much they’ll miss the Americans. We are nothing if not entertaining

The worst part about the TikTok ban for me personally is that I know I could use this as a motivation for quitting endless scrolling of short-form video content, but instead I’ll probably get addicted to the far inferior Instagram Reels instead
