Required reading for autocoding imo danluu.com/ai-coding/
In general, when I talk to software folks about testing, I'm coming from such a different place that they immediately look at me like I'm an alien, so let's talk about how we tested at this hardware company I worked for, Centaur, which informs my biases about how I like to work. Some of the things that we did that were or are unorthodox in the software world are:

Hired dedicated QA / test engineers, with testing being a first-class career path on par with being a developer
    No code review by default
    Virtually no hand-written tests
Constant testing via what programmers sometimes called property based testing, randomized testing, fuzzing, etc., although we just called those tests (hand-written tests were called "hand tests").
Large regeression test suite (3 months wall clock to execute on compute farm)
    No unit tests

Just to give you an idea of the general structure, when I left (in 2013), we had about 1000 machines generating and running tests at all times for roughly 20 logic designers and 20 test engineers. This was on prem and the machines took up half a floor of the building we were in. The general structure was that we had maybe 20% of machines running regression tests, and 80% generating and running new tests. Three months of regression tests is too much to gate commits on, so there was a much shorter list of tests that took maybe 10 minutes or so to run that people would run before committing. Those pre-commit tests would run on a special setup to run as quickly as possible, with overclocked machines that were the fastest machines money could buy, as well as a different simulator setup.

It's not just ethanol either! Corn is in fucking everything. @swiftonsecurity.com had a bit about how corn is literally in everything you eat and use. It's not just for the energy production!
@swiftonsecurity tweet screenshot: "Surfactants in shampoo and dishwashing liquid are often chemically processed with corn glucose. Cosmetics are often corn. You use corn to remove corn from your dishes. You take a shower and clean yourself with the help of corn. Corn is applied to cardboard boxes during production. Table salt uses corn to help iodine stick. Windex uses 2-hexoxyethanol which is made from corn"Animals eat corn, but meat isn't corn, right? Correct.

How is bacteria controlled in meat cutting operations?
Interestingly by spraying lactic acid.

Where does lactic acidd come from? Fermenting glucose.
Where does glucose come from? Corn syrupYou are slowly realizing it has been literally years, maybe decades, since you at any meal made without corn.

a single diagram should be able to explain "what is the cloud and how does it work" and it should be no more complex than the following water cycle diagram. the cloud diagram unfortunately doesn't exist

Found out about it because I've been playing with Obsidian. Wanted to see all the music shows I wanted to go to, but didn't want to do the math of which show happens where and on what date. Built a plugin in about an hour that makes it easy to see. Just _had_ to use the tileset
Screenshot of obsidian showing a bunch of shows listed in seattle to the left, and on the right is the plugin i talk about. On the top is a calendar view showing all the dates the shows are happening (parsed from the file) and below that is a map with markers of where these shows happen (the map is using the watercolor tileset from the previous post). It's all bidirectionally synced, so if you move your cursor, or click a calender event or a map pin, it'll show up the date and the cursor moves to the location.

Experimenting with canvas for displaying records, using @tldraw.com and @nekomimi.pet's atproto-ui what do you think? Would you use this? Maybe for mood-boarding? Maybe a @kinopio.club-like, but AT proto native? Even just having tldraw -> save to PDS seems like, vaguely cool?
Screenshot of tldraw with a sidebar that lists all the records in your PDS, with drag and drop onto the canvas. On the canvas is a component displaying my profile and one of my tangled strings regarding the seams.so shortcut.

I've been learning blender! I made my first render the other day
the final rendered image from the blender donut tutorial

it shows a cartoony kitchen with a plate and several donuts on it, in the early morning light. the donuts have a variety of different glazes and spinkles on the top. most of them are stacked vertically on top of each other, but one is aligned with the camera

they look yummy but you can tell its a beginner work

Still clearly pretty buggy, but it WORKS!! share_target to load a web page directly from android's native UI to get to a page you can annotate on, directly to your PDS 🎉🎉🎉

Also built a real backend for this page now! It's a tiny little Go server that indexes records you make (but only ones made through the app for now) Stole @cosmik.network's approach here, it's remarkably effective. Thanks for the code, friends!
The same landing page I posted earlier for https://seams.so

The tagline reads "Wisdom is made Together" on the left side, and on the right is a list of recent test annotations I've made all of them from squishy.computer except one.

It reads as a technical webpage.

In the bottom left corner are the icons for tangled and bluesky.

Getting real close to launching Seams.so for real this time! Had to undertake a lot of architectural work to setup a proxy which _doesn't_ require a browser extension, but shares almost all the code with it. Probably going to use this as the mobile version.
A screenshot of https://newsletter.squishy.computer/p/deep-future with the Seams sidebar open showing who's annotated the page, as well as showing the highlights on the page itself. Notably it's not in a browser extension, the page natively builds the sidebar by proxying the requests and injecting code into it.

Landing page, with a backend! This is getting very close to being ready! Wearing my inspiration a bit too strong? I'm open to design critique. What do you think? I'd love to commission someone for some diagrams and a logo, to help finesse this page.
Screenshot of the landing page for my atmospheric annotation tool, called Seams. It's in the style of https://nan.fyi with a blueprint style, and some test annotations sorted recently. The hero line reads "Wisdom is made Together" in a sidebar, and recent annotations to the right. I think it looks rather nifty, technical diagram vibes.

This week on hylst hacks: synthes.is (hypothes.is on atproto) gotta figure out oauth for extensions (need a static site to serve client_metadata?) then a bit of mechanization to move from local storage to pds (it's already using a lexicon) then to the app view! (we'll see how far i get)
