We used to make shit, build shit in this country. Now we put our hand in the next guy's pocket. Or so I was once told. This shit is going to make the mortgage-backed securities scandal look like a time of modulated economic growth and sober investment opportunity.

Going to work now feels like doing homework after the teacher quit and told the class that education is fake. Everyone just coasting on inertia and hoping there's still a point to all this 1/3

It's good that we invented things like
"government" and "the economy" but we can't meaningfully participate in them if the people in charge are constantly rubbing in our faces that these things are fake, and in fact you are a naive doofus if you think otherwise. That's a society on life support

Better Things Are Possible @internet... • 8h
It's kind of maddening to see almost no one with power and a major platform publicly wrestling with this. We're gonna have to talk about something other than gas and grocery prices at some point 3/3

"Yud is basically Ignatius J. Reilly" is probably the Meanest thing I've ever thought about him, but it might also be the Truest thing. Though at least Ignatius did manage to get a college degree.

if I'm being completely honest I think that most of the people On Here do not want to acknowledge the familiarity of the pattern because it would make them sound uncool or possibly even ~*sex negative*~ if they did

it is my understanding from history that specifically persecuting educated professionals and making it much harder for college graduates to find jobs that will allow them to become professionals is a perfectly safe thing to do that never ends unpredictably

I really wish the NYPD devoted resources to this too. modifying your car to make it louder is the sign of a truly diseased mind and these vehicles should be impounded and destroyed

yeah I try not actually say this too much because you never know who is behind the screen and they might be like actually directly suffering due to politics in immediate ways (or at least say they are), but I feel like the correct response to at least half that shit is ‘no you need Wellbutrin’

i love this semi-literate tammany man with a mouth full of gold who wears a derby hat on the side of his hat and can’t stop spitting in spittoons and has no political philosophy other than “what’s good for the poor people of the fourth ward is good enough for me”

Congrats to the LIRR workers on their new contract. Very much like the ILA port strike in 2024 a lot of people on the internet got pretty far out over their skis assigning totemic importance and conspiracy theories to a labor action that was ultimately resolved in like 72 hours.

I don’t really wonder about a “vibecession” anymore because it’s rational to hate the economy when any Republican holds any office, and right now a Republican is president

Devastating: Hampshire College is permanently closing following the Fall 2026 Semester. A beautiful institution & community that has done so much for so many. My child is a current Hampshire senior. Hampshire's approach to education is so unique, humane, & exciting—I've seen it first hand. Tragic

I think it's true that public sector unions with inefficient work rules obtained by capture of electeds is indeed sometimes an obstacle to efficient provision of public services, but also if you had me rank the top 50 obstacles to efficient provision of public services that wouldn't make the list.

The existence of public sector unions puts pro-union politicians in the uncomfortable position of acting as management in a labor negotiation. That's fine. The expectation there should be that the pro-labor position is "negotiate in good faith" not "they have to give the union everything they want"
