Between this and the hedge fund takeover of McClatchy, which resulted in massive layoffs, I am starting to suspect gutting media from the inside out is actually the goal.

Seems people online are still making hay w/the supposed Aug. 3 deadline for Gov. Beshear to appoint a replacement for McConnell. Experts I spoke to said this isn't a thing, and even if McConnell stepped down today, the process would get ugly. Here's why. www.aljazeera.com/news/2026/7/...

What happens if Mitch McConnell is unable to finish his US Senate term?
The longtime party leader's absence from the Senate is likely to have repercussions for the Republican agenda.

I heard through the grapevine years ago Adams wouldn't run for governor if Trump won reelection. Fascinating to see that actually happen. Apparently he doesn't see a place for himself in a Trump Republican party.

Republicans, who hold a supermajority in the KY legislature, have been working to shift powers from the governor since the election of Andy Beshear, a Democrat, in 2019. That includes passing two laws, one in 2021 and another in 2024, that changes how U.S. Senates vacancies are temporarily filled.

The Platner campaign is, to me at least, a weird inverse of Roy Moore's campaign for Alabama governor in 2017. The charges were despicable and everything had to go wrong enough for Doug Jones to win. Everything will need to go just right enough for Dems to win Maine. And the charges are despicable.

Absolute banger of an obituary in the Seattle Times today, rest in peace Judy
Judith DOORIS
May 18, 1936 - Jun 13, 2026
Judy Chambers Dooris was born on either March or May 18 - nobody is certain - 1936, in California, and died June 13, 2026. This is already off to a rough start. Mom would never reveal her age to us kids, so she would certainly object to announcing her birth year in the news-paper. Apologies, mom. They made us do it.
Judy was the firstborn child of Mildred Devlin and EdwardIn her early 20s, Judy was a bridesmaid at Bill Dooris' cousin's wedding. He was smitten and courted her long-distance for many months. She would want us to write here that she had options. But lucky for us, she chose Bill and a life filled with his good humor, song, and laughter. She would often say to us "marry someone fun" because she did.
Judy and Bill lived in Bellevue, and Judy birthed 4 kids in just under 4.5 years. Obviously, she was Catholic. Judy was ferociously protective of her children against clear threats. Once on a family camping trip, a roaring drunk uncle stormed into our camping trailer intending to scare us kids, but mom met him at the threshold and hollered, "YOU GET OUT OF HERE!" He yelped and retreated, squeaking "sorry Judy." Against possible threats, she
