One of my favorite podcast subgenres is "thoughtful deep dives into junkfood pop culture," and I'm swiftly falling in love with this one. I've listened to part of one episode (about the commercials), & there's been lots of unironic praise for Jim Varney's acting skill. I love it!

This is gonna be a controversial take, but Latka is the only part of TAXI that I struggle with. The rest of the show is a pitch-perfect, bittersweet look at what it’s like to work a blue-collar job, and Latka’s over-the-top character feels out of step in a show where everything else feels authentic.

One more note on LITTLE BIG LEAGUE: I won’t pretend that I’m an expert (or even super knowledgeable) about baseball; I like the game but I’m barely a novice at best. However, this movie speaks with such a level of confident intelligence that you know it’s getting everything right.

I just read the FANGORIA article about this and it sounds fantastic. It sounds like a ‘70s conspiracy thriller (specifically CAPRICORN ONE) with some interdimensional craziness tossed into the mix. I’m looking forward to this!

Since the World Series is going on (and because this movie's available on Tubi), here's a shoutout to one of my favorite baseball movies. It seems like it'd be silly, but it respects the sport and it's intelligent about it. The story really draws me in and it has lots of heart!

Tonight I rewatched BACK TO THE FUTURE, & Doc’s arc hit me more strongly than ever before. I assume Doc was the black sheep of his family, and that must’ve been underlined by the fact that his inventions failed. I really felt his elation over discovering his Time Machine worked!
