I was NICE compared to what I do in Charlottesville, which is tell 6ft tall white men at local concerts they are standing in front of a 5ft tall woman and they can stand behind me and see just as well. They don’t like that!

Speaking of pod people, there are so many outfits to wear to a country show that aren’t a white minidress with pale tan cowboy boots and an unadorned pale jean jacket. SO MANY.

I have been writing this post about the economics of open source, on and off, for 13 years. I wasn't expecting to end up at "Microsoft should send corporations a huge bill" but nothing else we've tried has worked. seldo.com/posts/nobody-pays-for-ope…

Nobody pays for open source. We can force them to. | Seldo.com
Thirty years of voluntary funding schemes haven't paid open source maintainers because asking doesn't scale. The real money already flows — to JFrog, Docker, Sonatype — at the registry layer. The fix: registries charge companies for supply (they already do), then route a slice automatically to the maintainers who make that supply worth having.

Saw Practical Magic 2 despite never seeing the first one - in the 90s I was a teenager and angsty so The Craft was more my style - but hey, Lee Pace and an Alamo special menu reposado margarita spritzer, what could go wrong? Haha whooops I'm shook realizing I LIKE-liked Sandra Bullock in the 90s

Me cutting the little hanger ribbons off a dress with my multitool scissors the very minute they peek out or otherwise bother me while I’m wearing it: Haha fuck yeah!!! Yes!! Me trying and failing to keep the dress on a hanger for eternity afterwards: Well this fucking sucks. What the fuck

Sometime around maybe 201(4? 5?) I was at Ten Thousand Villages and they had this thing labeled as a “charger” that was inexpensive, colorful yet subtle, basically everything I was looking for at the time to lift up my laptop stand just a tiiiny bit more and spiff up my office desk. I still have it!
A round mat made of circles of colorful rolled newspaper, with a big circle in the middle and many small circles surrounding, underneath the stand of an orange 2021 iMac. In the background there’s a pale brown and purple desk mat with moths.

Yeppp, though on my first attempt it thought I was from Maine. I thought about about all my answers and realized I probably call them “sneakers” because everyone else does now but growing up I was more likely to say “tennis shoes” and that change was enough to get me back where I was born & raised.
Screenshot of my mydialect.us results - I talk like someone from Virginia, and my results match a typical resident 48% but the most-like-me parts of Virginia are the the central and southeastern bits and downwards into NC (where my dad has family so that tracks), then less like me north of me in Virginia or west of me. Somehow besides Virginia and NC, people talk most like me in Maine and New Mexico???

I love @emily.gorcen.ski a lot but my love language is definitely NOT putting a VERY nice lock on the side of a Pittsburgh bridge to symbolize our bond. Like, that is a $20-40 heavy-duty lock, I know because I bought one for our storage unit - what is wrong with this couple, are they okay???

At this point in my life I should be able to unlock a cat large enough to ride around & have adventures. At night I would build a fire and sleep on him & he would hunt a deer and share it with me. I have fed and been slept upon by enough cats in my life. It is time for them to return the favor.

I don’t “regret” my choices because I’m in my 40s and home at a reasonable hour, and running into a movie buddy again was delightful, but… if I could flip the coin again between seeing The Untouchables for the first time at 7:15pm *or* rewatching We Are All Going to the World’s Fair at 9:30ish…

One thing I cannot recommend is refinishing a perfectly good stainless steel wire shower caddy with a different color metal spraypaint so it “matches”, and another thing I can’t recommend is repairing your slightly rusted and peeled shower caddy 10yrs later instead of letting it go, yet here I am

So when I asked @emily.gorcen.ski “can I have this” as in have this weird busted yard cow that was posted on the neighborhood Buy Nothing group, she said “… … no…” but if it’s still in a driveway tomorrow does the internet think I can have it, y/n
A “weird large yard cow decor thing” as described by its owner - kinda brown and maybe rusty? Big eyelashes. I think some ears/horns/both are missing? It has a cowbell

I spent the last day of my 3-day weekend doing a grout-patching job in our master bath to fix a settling-related crack. One of those tasks where if you do a really good job it looks exactly the same and you didn’t injure yourself, so instead I just took a photo of the Forbidden Chocolate Frosty.
A close-up of my mixed-up tiny container of linen-colored Polyblend grout, which looks very much like a slightly melted chocolate Frosty or perhaps a milkshake; you can tell it’s not because there’s a wooden stirrer in it and I’m wearing latex gloves, plus I don’t usually eat a Frosty in the bathroom but I won’t judge you if that’s your thingA close-up shot of the back of my container of grout, which warns me that it will cause severe skin burns and I shouldn’t breathe the dust.

Three panel comic. Panel 1: the mutant bear from Annihilation (2018) is sitting and eating at a restaurant table across from a woman. Another woman wearing glasses is standing a short distance away, and says, “oh my gosh! The mutant bear from annihilation!” Panel 2: she continues, “what was Natalie Portman like?” The bear seems slightly put off, and is in the middle of eating some food. Panel 3: the bear says, “um, I’m kinda with a friend.” The woman sitting across from the bear looks visibly annoyed at the other woman’s rude interjection. The woman is glasses says, “ah! Sorry!”

When your community removes a racist statue, do like Charlottesville and melt that fucker down. Because if you just stash it in storage, it becomes what @artcrimeprof.bsky.social calls “America’s strategic racism reserve” — ready for redeployment. www.nbcwashington.com/news/local/s...
