I think an Open Bicycle Digital Identity is a pretty fanfuckintastic idea for **reasons**! And if the industry doesn't proactively adopt something useful and logical like this *on their own* it sure looks like the Feds & CPSC through the Safe Speeds Act might do it for them! Check it: obdispec.org
How it works

Every OBDI bicycle has:

A unique, permanent identifier

A durable NFC tag and QR code

Manufacturer-provided specifications

A trusted public web record & API

An open standard that other services can use

Scan a bike. Know what it is.

Scan the NFC tag or QR code with any phone to see the bicycle's authoritative OBDI record in a web-browser.

That record can include:

Manufacturer and model

Model year and color

Bicycle or e-bike type

E-bike class

Motor power

Original assisted-speed limit

Mode characteristics - permanent or user-selected

OBDI identifier and record status

This is a false dichotomy: -lots of crummy trails -few well managed trails I don't think all our trails need to be perfect, but making them all more sustainable and less erosive should be a target. People want to explore the outdoors- less barriers to that exploration should be our priority.

What's important... as ever. 🤮

What you need to know: Governor Newsom signed SB 1392 (Cortese), also known as Jay Leno’s Law, creating a phased in smog check exemption for qualifying collector cars built between 1976 and 1985. The Governor also signed AB 2541 (M. González) establishing the Lowrider specialized license plate program to honor a uniquely Californian tradition rooted in Latino artistry, cultural identity, and civic pride, while helping support youth engagement and related arts and cultural programsProtecting California’s car culture
Ask any classic car owner, and they will tell you their car isn’t just a car, it’s a time capsule. A Trans Am under a carport cover. A midnight blue Impala getting its Sunday morning wax before a local car show. These cars carry family history in the upholstery and years of elbow grease in every panel, and these laws honor that history.
Jay Leno’s Law is narrowly tailored for a small number of qualifying collector vehicles built between 1976 and 1985 that are preserved for limited use rather than everyday transportation. The exemption will be phased in over the coming years and will apply only to vehicles that meet specific collector insurance or low-mileage requirements. These vehicles represent a very small share of California’s overall fleet and contribute minimally to statewide emissions compared with high-use commuter and commercial vehicles. These are historic vehicles driven only occasionally for special events and are carefully maintained by their owners. SB 1392 preserves California’s automotive traditions without creating a persistent new source of everyday vehicle emissions.

Celebrating lowriders
Establishing the Lowrider Specialized License Plate through AB 2541 affirms California’s commitment to celebrating cultural traditions and heritage. This builds on previous legislation Governor Newsom signed into law with AB 436 (Alvarez, 2023), which legalized lowrider cruising and outdated state restrictions on lowered vehicles, recognizing lowriding as a cultural and artistic tradition rooted in California’s Latino communities.
For decades, fines, restrictions, and local cruising bans targeted the lowrider community. These policies criminalized cultural expression and attempted to suppress a movement rooted in identity, creativity, and community pride. Despite these barriers, lowriders continued to build, paint, and cruise, transforming cars into rolling works of art that reflect family, faith, and freedom. The Lowrider …

What do Trail Heroes do? The Gianni Trail crew does this. Bridge on Nutmeg Trail in Willow Creek State Park (near Duncan's Mills, CA) You can join Gianni Cycling right here, and support the work they do! In fact, you can do it too! giannicycling.org
Recent work: During our August trail day, our amazing volunteer trail crew put in extensive work on Nutmeg to get it back in top-notch shape! It hadn't been worked on in years, so the crew removed poison oak, weed-whacked tall grass, and generally got the trail clear and ready to ride. A huge thank you to the awesome crew who came out – we couldn't have done it without you!

What's next: State Parks has officially approved a reroute on Big Island! Our next trail day will be focused on prepping for this major project.

THE KISS OF DEATH #flock #ALPR www.washingtonpost.com/technology/2...
President Donald Trump expressed his support for a fast-growing surveillance tool opposed by many Americans, saying he likes Flock cameras “because of law enforcement.”

“I sort of like them because of that, because of law enforcement, but some people don’t,” Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One on Sunday in his first public comments endorsing the technology. “They think it’s an infringement. I like them.”
