FCC Approves Next Gen Starlink Mobile Constellation

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) also approved Starlink Mobile’s Gen2 constellation application this week, authorizing SpaceX to launch 15,000 satellites that are optimized for 2 GHz spectrum globally. The V2 Starlink Mobile satellites will deliver more than 100 times the bandwidth of our current generation, bringing high-speed service directly to unmodified devices anywhere in the world. Additionally, the FCC authorized the full range of backhaul bands (in Ka/V/E/W) used by Starlink’s V3 broadband satellites, enabling them to operate with the existing Starlink gateway network.

We appreciate all the work the FCC staff put in to authorize this critical step toward the next era of satellite-to-mobile connectivity. From dense cities to the most remote and rural communities, this next-generation service will keep Americans connected no matter where they are.

Sonoma County Regional Parks, in partnership with CalFire and Sonoma County Fire District, is planning on conducting an 89-acre prescribed burn to reduce fuel loads and restore coastal prairie habitat at Carrington Ranch Regional Park and Open Space Preserve on Tuesday, October 6th.

This is a permitted controlled burn, do not call 911.

The burn will take place across the street from Salmon Creek, Miwok and Arched Rock beaches and is not yet open to the public.

Prescribed burns are carefully planned and must meet strict criteria for ecological benefit, weather parameters, smoke management and fire safety guidelines. (The planned date is subject to last-minute changes due to these considerations). When all conditions are met, trained fire personnel conduct the burn while monitoring the set criteria, fire behavior and designated fire control lines.

This prescribed burn has been planned and coordinated with the Northern Sonoma County Air Quality and Pollution Control District to minimize the smoke impacts on surrounding communities.

This project is largely supported by Parks for All - Measure M, a local sales tax that supports Sonoma County’s regional and city parks. For more information on how Regional Parks uses low-intensity prescribed fire as a landscape management tool, visit SoCoParks.org/Fire.

CA today before Ridge influences resume most of the rest of the week and continue Hot and Dry conditions. - Widely scattered showers/t-storms will favor the N. Sierra PSA the rest of today although surrounding PSAs are likely to be clipped by some of the action, especially the Far Eastside PSA. - Expect very small footprints of wetting rain (> 0.25") and gustier outflow winds with the activity, especially during the afternoon. - Generally light/variable and mainly terrain altered wind flows, including some localized breezes expected through Thu with above normal temps (8-18 deg) and unusually low RH (upper single digits, teens and 20s) most areas. - Fri thru Sun is an interesting and low confidence period due to the possibilities of a split flow weather pattern and its interplay with Hurricane Rachel's moisture and energy. - Some of the models have recently backed off on a more notable wind increase for Fri although some sort of increase is still in the cards with warm/dry conditions likely continuing. - Hard to say for the weekend and will continue to monitor with difference weather scenarios possible.
