I feel like I need to pass comment on the Greens’ antics today, mainly because I’m seeing some revolting antisemitism come up in my feed. Zionism is not racism. The Jewish people have a right to self-determination. A two-state solution is the only way forward. Now stop showing me cranky shit

I could try to be funny about this, but let’s be real: Woodford is probably the safest bit of Redbridge. People are moving because they want and can afford bigger houses. I’m a school governor in Woodford and its incredible diversity is something parents and children alike celebrate.

We’ve seen this movie before. It ends with homelessness, Temporary Accommodation costs crippling local councils, renters in severe financial hardship. That this can be done without huge social damage is the politics of wishful thinking.

Things the Germans do better: tannoy announcements on public transport telling people to listen to music etc through headphones and not on speaker for all to hear. Bliss.

See this? This is the problem. Condoning threats and violence (which is what the article was about) harms our democracy for everyone. I don’t want to live in a country where violence is ok if it’s ’the other side’ being attacked.

We must remember the Utøya massacre, and remember it for what it was: a far-right attack specifically targeted against democratic socialist activists. Today, the ideologies of its perpetrator are openly espoused by a global network of nationalist oligarchs as they wage war on democratic societies.

I’m the last one to agree with Reform on anything, but I’m a bit irked by the suggestion that parliamentary security is totally perfect, nothing to see here in response to their claims. Decisions about security for MPs are inconsistent and put MPs from all parties at risk - Reform are not special.

Also, understanding how politics works, how people think, what voters want, how to make others work with you and to get Whitehall or devolved bodies to deliver is a skill set. Sometimes, just like career surgeons or career pilots, you need people with developed skills.

If Burnham were to lose the by-election, it would mean that the Labour party is in huuuuge trouble. Not in a 'because he is their saviour' way, just in a 'if a really popular mayor cannot win that seat Labour are on course for a massacre almost everywhere' way.
