I have never seen coverage of a live trial, one involving allegations of multiple sex attacks on multiple women, framed in a more distasteful way. It's not 'Fame under fire' it's a rape trial. And it involves actual women. And this from the *checks notes* BBC
BBC screengrab from within their Russell Brand trial coverage. Image of Brand in 70s-style aviator glasses, with earpods in, blank expression. Long dark wavy hair, black and grey beard, dark unbuttoned shirt. All on a fire red/orange and black background
BBC logo top and centre, underneath a subdeck reading: Fame Under Fire. Then the headline 'Russell Brand On Trial'.
The words 'fire'and 'trial' are coloured to look like they are glowing orange at the bottom

Friday's TGT highlights the amazing recent story of Bodhana Sivanandan - the 11 year old British school girl who has become the youngest ever Female Chess Grandmaster. She only started playing 6 years ago. Ask your students what's stopping them achieving the same? bit.ly/TutorGroupThink
Friday 16th October
At the Chess Olympiad in Uzbekistan last month, England's top female player sat down to face some of the world's best competitors. She is Bodhana Sivanandan and is just 11 years old, requiring a booster on her seat to reach the board! She won 6 of 11 games and drew 4, becoming the youngest ever Woman Grandmaster (WGM) in chess history, beating a record previously held by two players who achieved the title aged 12. (BBC News)
Bodhana was born in London in 2015 and lives in Harrow. She only started playing chess during the Covid lockdown in 2020. Within three years she was beating experienced adult players and at 10 she became the youngest female player ever to defeat a Grandmaster.
Chess is played by millions worldwide, but earning a Grandmaster title requires consistently beating top opponents rather than occasional victories. Bodhana achieved her WGM while representing England on the highest board at the Olympiad, reserved for the strongest player from each country. Bodhana still attends school and has homework alongside her chess practice. Her ambition now is to become an unrestricted Grandmaster, a title open to men and women, with even tougher requirements.
Have you ever played Chess? If you start now, could you be a Grandmaster in 6 years?
How do you think Bodhana feels playing against adults who’d been playing so much longer than her?
What do you think Bodhana has had to sacrifice to get to this point?
