"Read zines!", alongside some of my free zines (ZineBakery.com/homemade), printed w/my 1st DIY lasercut type (acrylic Bungee Inline, Tweaked). From my letterpress 🎨 archive.
Photo of a letterpress print on white paper with dayglo orange ink on text and dark blue ink on decorative exclamation marks. It says "ABC READ ZINES XYZ". The print sits on a wood table next to three of my zines on queer book history and interesting historical print blocks.Photo of lasercut acrylic letterpress type arranged on a metal printing press bed with bright orange ink on the press rollers and type. In both cases, I was trying to toss keys to someone on a porch, and I always end up on a roof. I did not enjoy calling my husband to tell him about the 2nd incident. I think he laughed all the way home from work.

The 1st was after returning from a date with my future husband and acting like I would throw them up on the roof to keep him there...and then I accidentally did while trying to toss them on the porch. The 2nd was trying to toss them to my driving age son on a hill...and my aim is too strong.

Tackle this as a solo mission. My family will never let me live it down that not once, but twice, I have landed car keys on top of a roof. They will likely tell this at my funeral, and I'm already cringing beyond the grave.

Also, as someone whose family were LITERALLY bricklayers...it's a great way to have a broken body in your 50s and/or addiction to pain medicine. 🤷‍♀️ I think it's why my grandfather gave me a dollar for every A I got on my report card when I was growing up.

My favourite fact about Iceland is that we have many, many crime writers but only one forensic pathologist, and he was so busy answering all of their questions that he decided to have a small seminar for writers to get some peace. It immediately sold out so he had another one that also sold out.

Pazzo's.
A gray building with blue awning and umbrella tables and a white "Pazzo's" sign th above the entrance. Just looking at it, you can smell the $1.99 pizza and drink combo that got you through the hell of of weekly grad school seminar discussion. You can faintly hear hatred for Louisville in the background.

My kids benefitted from this program, just like every other child in our Title I county in East Tennessee. I knew her as a great singer first, my kids knew her as the Book Lady. I thanked her in passing once as the Book Lady once in Dollywood, and her face lit up as she waved to me and my kids.

I gotta tell y'all, you let them them celebrate their grandaddies who wanted to tear down the republic to enslave our brothers and sisters. Too many official Confederate Days, too many clebrating "all who served." What did you expect? Damnatio memoriae should have been how we treated it all.

In the Renaissance people theorized, since the Aeneid is great, if you wrote poems made only of words & phrases from the Aeneid rearranged they should be great too, since a great source regurgitated should yield greatness. They produced NOTHING we still read. Thinking about that a lot lately.

You ever think about how those old 1950s westerns were set in the 1880s, and if we were to do that today, we'd have a big boom in movies set in the 1950s? Anyways. I'm sitting in the hospital waiting room.

It was her mother's family member, and her mother had put it there because because she couldn't part with it. Evidently, it has been there when my grandmother was a child (in the 1930s), and the family freaked out when she was caught playing dress-up with it. It still scared her in the 1980s.

I often think about how nervous my grandmother was when we poked around the old creek mill her family used to own. It once contained a box of clothes that belonged to a family member who died of TB, and she was afraid we might come across it while looking around.

Honestly, you could re-cast the Odyssey as a comedy - it's basically Odysseus pratfalling his way around various Mediterranean islands, getting laid, stealing shit & picking fights while winking at the camera. This why O Brother, Where Art Thou? is the most accurate film depiction of the story.

By far the funniest moment in Homer’s Odyssey is when Circe says, “Shall we have sex?” and Odysseus says, “You just turned all my men into pigs. You have the GALL to think I would sleep with you? Of course I will. Absolutely. But don’t do any weird spells”
