I think there are essentially three root errors that are killing the left-of-center’s ability to navigate present-day politics. First: DELIVERISM Liberals and progressives want to believe that if you do things that help voters, they’ll like you. But often, they don’t notice or care.

Gegenwärtig erlebt Berlin die größte Sparrunde seit dem Berliner Bankenskandal vor mehr als zwanzig Jahren. Sie trifft die Berliner Wissenschaftseinrichtungen mit voller Wucht. Nachdem über Monate hinweg als Einsparsumme des Senatsressorts Gesundheit und Wissenschaft die Zahl von 100 Millionen Euro in der Öffentlichkeit herumgeisterte, wird diese nun mit 280 Millionen angegeben. Die Hochschulen allein sollen im Jahr 2025 insgesamt 100 Millionen Euro einsparen. Hierbei könnten die „signifikanten“ Rücklagen der Universitäten ja verrechnet werden, heißt es von den politischen Akteuren großzügig. Dass diese Rücklagen zum Teil zweckgebunden sind und an Mittelgeber zurückfließen müssten – geschenkt. Dass das Land sanierungsbedürftige Universitätsgebäude aus seiner Investitionsplanung streicht und den Universitäten wiederum durch Einkassieren von Rücklagen die Möglichkeit nimmt, selbst aktiv zu werden – wen kümmert’s? Die Berliner Lösung für massiven Platzmangel und einstürzende Hörsäle? Reduktion der zulässigen Pro-Kopf-Quadratmeterpauschale. Übrigens bleibt für Berlins Autofahrer auch im Jahr 2025 das Anwohnerparken so günstig wie jeher: 10,20 Euro pro Jahr. Der Stadt Berlin und ihrer Regierung sind Parkplätze eben wichtiger als Studienplätze.

Still finding it hard to comprehend the awfulness of what it going on in Israel right now. Cannot see any route from here with mutually acceptable outcomes. Heightened my sense that humans are capable of making problems that they can’t solve.
