I wonder if "esoteric" being the magic word has anything to do with the preexisting popularity of that word in crank and pseudoscientific circles used to train the model? They're always into fringe mysticism and shit, and fallacious arguments made to prop up lies tend not to care which lies they do

ProPublica spoke to dozens of people who had lived in homeless encampments when cities cleared them out in “sweeps.” We distributed notecards so people could tell us about the toll in their own words. ➡️ This is what they wrote:
Handwritten notecard. Prompt at the top asks: What object was most devastating for you to lose, and how have you been coping? Answer below: Dentures. Were thrown away and coping isn't somthing I can do. It’s made me feel ugly, unworthy, can’t go get a job with no teeth. So how can get off the streets until another pair can be made?

Yeah, that's the thing. Israel LOVES antisemitism, because it drives immigration to Israel and feeds the narrative that they're victims, not oppressors. (In reality, those are not mutually exclusive.)

You seem to have mistaken "highly paid" with "requiring high intelligence". I would think even a casual look at the state of our economy would disprove THAT correlation. Now that you've said you've no interest in understanding others, and are projecting your disingenuousness, you can fuck right off.

I don't think it's a lack of people generally, but there's very much a lack of people in positions of power, because capitalism rewards short-term gains much more than long-term planning. Exponential bottom line growth is fundamentally unsustainable, but as CEO, if you've moved on, why care?

But that's the thing, once you're no longer reproducing sexually, you're not really a member of the same species anymore. It's only a true advantage if you're doing both; churning out clones AND incorporating new genes into your pool. Otherwise you're just kicking the can down the road.

Then it just iterates off of whether or not you click the ad. If you do? Great! Not only has the ad done its job (getting you to click on it), but now it knows that particular ad works, at least some of the time, and can use it as the basis for more. If you don't? Just scrap it and try again.

helliongamer.bsky.social @helliongamer.bsky.social · 19/09/2026
Most likely what's going on is some generic ai "marketing agent" was fed a single example picture of the type of bottle being sold, and is churning out and A/B testing ads based on what the LLM's training data suggests people use bottles for.
110
helliongamer.bsky.social @helliongamer.bsky.social · 19/09/2026
I think you're overestimating the level of human involvement in this type of ad. In fact, I think in many of these cases you (the person being advertised to) are the first human to see the ad at all, and may be the last as well, because they're being generated algorithmically.
100
helliongamer.bsky.social @helliongamer.bsky.social · 19/09/2026
But I think the things an AI CAN'T do are a better measurement of intelligence than what they can. When I tell the agent to make an edit to solve a certain problem and the edit does something else, that tells me that it isn't smart enough to understand the problem.
100
helliongamer.bsky.social @helliongamer.bsky.social · 19/09/2026
AI tends to do well with tasks that I would describe as "complex in scope but simple in essence"; things that can FEEL impressive to humans because our brains didn't evolve to do things like "immediately memorize 500 digit numbers" but don't correlate to more abstract problem solving.
100
helliongamer.bsky.social @helliongamer.bsky.social · 19/09/2026
In the same way, many things AI can do are a lot less impressive when juxtaposed with the things they fail at; I'm (unfortunately) obligated to use AI in my daily code writing, and thus I have a front-row seat to watching AI struggle with tasks even a entry level developer wouldn't.
100
helliongamer.bsky.social @helliongamer.bsky.social · 19/09/2026
Here's the thing: "incredibly difficult feats of intelligence" is SUPER subjective metric. A pocket calculator can instantly solve equations that would take even the most skilled humans several minutes, but we don't call them "intelligent" because they can't do the same for non-math problems.
100
helliongamer.bsky.social @helliongamer.bsky.social · 15/09/2026
Like they think they can get by with just a smartphone but the software they need for the assignments is only for desktops/laptops?
100
helliongamer.bsky.social @helliongamer.bsky.social · 11/09/2026
But given that in reality it's mostly manifesting as "AI can't do your job, but it CAN convince your boss that doesn't understand your job that it can do your job", I think "economic/ecological collapse because we keep letting AI shills run and ruin everything" is more likely than "Skynet".

helliongamer.bsky.social @helliongamer.bsky.social · 11/09/2026
The most reasonable version of the concern is the idea that as we throw more and more compute and training data at AI that we ALREADY can't get to do what we want, we're going to build an narcissist manipulator that knows it can make "number go up" faster by lying than by doing what we want.

I remember that too, I do think it's one of those things where the level of exposure changes peoples' opinions. Like, when it seems like every show is doing it, it's annoying, but then after they all stop people get less reactionary and maybe even are nostalgic for it.

I have no idea what the original context was, but christians are hardly the only ones obnoxious about their religion. Hinduism, Islam, Buddhism, Christianity, they ALL try to force themselves on unbelievers, because that's the only way a belief system with no basis in reality can survive.

As a programmer myself, the best you can say about it is "sometimes it can implement a halfway-functional feature, so long as it's small enough, expressed completely agnostic of the business logic, you manually verify everything afterwards, and don't mind a completely unreadable codebase"
