For this #MosaicMonday, a strip of guilloche looking like mosaic but actually painted. This is the piece I mentioned in the recent post about mosaicists/painters. In Winchester City Museum. #AncientBlueSky🏺
A fragment resembling Roman mosaic. It shows two strips of simple guilloche vertically side by side with plain tessellation in white to left and right, and a strip of red on the extreme right.

Don't remember that one 😅 but it's got very sensible advice about all sorts of pests. I've never seen the squirrels more active burying things in the lawn than in this last month or so. Grrrr.

Last month we shared images from Blenheim Palace, Oxfordshire, highlighting how recent drought conditions have revealed the outlines of long-buried archaeological remains. Features both familiar and newly identified have also been emerging across Wales this summer, and have been documented by Dr Toby Driver, the Senior Investigator for Aerial Survey at the Royal Commission.

And very excitingly, gradually being revealed under the site is an ancient fossil forest, the only one of its type found in Europe. It was formed 314 million years ago - before early amphibians first crawled onto land. A forest of gigantic clubmosses & horsetails, plus giant insects 😳 #StoriBrymbo
