🚨🚨Regardless of today, Sept. 27, 2026, being the last planned day for the Academy of Natural Sciences’ public museum, this is NOT the end of the fight.🚨🚨 In the coming days and weeks we will need you more than ever. Drexel and the board thinks the pressure will let up. It will only increase.

As the executive director of a small nonprofit working my absolute ass off to bring science to this city, hearing that the people negotiating with Drexel and the academy might brush off funding that would provide the kids of our city with access to a science museum *for a year* is boiling my blood.

More from inside NIH: Per a source with knowledge, for all internal research (of which there is like $10 billion worth or so), ALL purchasing shut down as of yesterday. That means gloves, reagents, anything involved with lab work, which means a lot of that work will stop.

Devastating for scientists and their research, and everyone who benefits from that research. I’m not sure if everyone outside academia is aware that a delay or “pause” in grant funding often means the researchers themselves are lost from the field, along with their expertise.

Good analysis of why fact checking on social media matters in a world where false claims are sticky + go viral so fast. But no mention of how X + Meta have altered their algorithms to suppress expert accounts & factual info. Fact checking on those platforms isn’t a level field. It’s a steep cliff.

Climate misinformation is rife on social media – and poised to get worse
Meta’s decision could open the floodgates to more climate misinformation on its apps, including misleading or out-of-context claims during disasters.
