In our effort to understand the biophysical roles of chromatin, we developed & benchmarked 3 simple DNA-stain metrics to track chromatin reorganization in living cells, no fixation needed. Led by outstanding #MinwooKang. Out and open access in #Nucleus. www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10....

Turns out the way DNA is packed inside the nucleus can tune the mechanics of the entire cell! Super excited that our first paper is out in Nature Communications! www.nature.com/articles/s41... !

Chromatin decompaction within the nucleus increases plasma membrane tension promoting NETosis execution, independently of transcription - Nature Communications
Chromatin organizes nuclear DNA, but whether it actively regulates whole-cell mechanics remains unknown. Here, we used NETosis to show that chromatin decompaction within the nucleus increases plasma membrane tension and cell volume, establishing chromatin as a regulator of cell mechanics.

We look forward to hearing feedback from the community on our #preprint where we used #NETosis as a platform to show that chromatin decompaction inside the nucleus directly regulates cell mechanics. This work identifies long-range biophysical impacts of chromatin in mammalian cells.
