In theory I feel like the Palpatine twist could have been a good idea... It just required the "You come from nothing. You're nothing" twist to not have happened first. The two are mutually exclusive. If she "comes from nothing" then she can't be the Emperor's frickin' grandchild.

She's gonna learn it at least eight more times probably. ...I do like YPC5, but this is indeed a problem it has, ESPECIALLY when one gets into the sequel series where it's extremely obvious that the writers already finished telling the story they wanted to tell and were just spinning their wheels.

Agreed. What's even slightly worse though, is when you get ANOTHER BOOK from the author and it's like "BY THE AUTHOR OF THIS OTHER THING WHICH IS NOW A MAJOR MOTION PICTURE" ...My copy of Artemis by Andy Weir does that. It advertises the Project Hail Mary movie on the front cover.

Update: Okay the book confirms his parentage in chapter 8 which is only like a third of the way through the book. For some reason I had gotten the impression that it was only revealed at the END of the book, and that the movie confirming it way earlier was one of many massive changes.

Anyway, I did see the movie of this book when that came out but I hear that movie was an atrocious adaptation and I don't remember much of it anyway. Though I do remember it being actually stated early on in the movie whose kid Percy was, whereas the book seems to leave that as a mystery for now?

recently my friend's comics professor told her that it's acceptable to use gen AI for script-writing but not for art, since a machine can't generate meaningful artistic work. meanwhile, my sister's screenwriting professor said that they can use gen AI for concept art and visualization, but that it won't be able to generate a script that's any good. and at my job, it seems like each department says that AI can be useful in every field except the one that they know best.

It's only ever the jobs we're unfamiliar with that we assume can be replaced with automation. The more attuned we are with certain processes, crafts, and occupations, the more we realize that gen AI will never be able to provide a suitable replacement. The case for its existence relies on our ignorance of the work and skill required to do everything we don't.

i get why AI is so depressing to me. because covid already shrunk my world to almost nothing, where almost all of my life revolves around socializing and watching videos on the internet (which is being ruined by AI) and creating creative works through coding (which is being ruined by AI), often using open source tools and libraries (which are being ruined by AI)

i already had so little and now even that is being rotted away before my eyes
