Just got a product magazine in my mailbox, opened the front cover, and was immediately greeted with a (labeled) AI image. The advertisement was for a shirt. A shirt. Not only that, but a shirt for BIG BODIES ... and they couldn't be bothered to show their ACTUAL PRODUCT on an ACTUAL PERSON. 🗑

[🏦🍀] WIRED WEST. #OCs A comic about something hard to name.

A monochrome 2 panel comic page, with the panel consisting of King laying curled up in bed, fully dressed, being the main focus. The positioning of King and the way he's folded into himself gives an almost lonely feeling.

The text reads: "I'm too tired to put anything in the spaces where dreams could once lay."

A full page comic panel. This page is different than the two proceeding it; there is monochrome and actual shading but there are also pops of green and other colors. King stands in a decayed building, grafitti and rot on the walls as plants overgrow their way in and take over.

King is still in greyscale, and he has turned to look at the camera. In the darkness of the inside of the building, his eyeshine is obvious --- which makes something feel a little out of place. Inhuman.

The text reads: I just hope nothing poisonous grows there while I am gone, trying to find myself.

I have a lot of feelings about how social media has kind of ... ruined the experience of being an artist who is sharing their work online.

Back when DeviantArt was new, before even the llamas, there was this unspoken phenomenon. Posting art was an immediate thing, but the engagement and interactions … they came much more slowly than now. People live in a world now where the second you hit “post,” there is an opportunity for a like within 5 minutes. I have seen people delete posts with comments ON THEM just because the person felt like it “bombed” and could do better at a different time of day because it didn’t exceed a certain number within a certain time. When did we get so greedy? When did the single like or comment stop being ENOUGH? Why do we rely so much on the feedback of others to decide if we are enjoying what we make or not?

The art part used to come first. It used to be about what people were passionate about making, not what pleases the mob. I’m done with the mob. It is impossible to please the fucking mob … but letting the art come first? That’s something I feel like I can at least gradually change in myself. Step by step. I want to learn patience, and I want to spend more time getting to know the people who are interested in me and my work. I don’t need to scream in a room full of people and then try to placate the first few people who look my way. If people want to engage with me, they need to step out of the mob and treat me like a person. That’s all I want, anymore. Connection. Genuine and honest connections that take time and take patience.

A piece I did for a challenge wherein a friend and I agreed to write smut for smut. This whole thing really got away from me, as my writing focused so much on the plot surrounding the hot and heavy bits.
