We had open morning in school yesterday. I used the selection problems from Axiom Maths as one of our activities, was great to see so many children try them out. Felt like we created some real interest in Maths Circles for prospective students #MathsToday

I sent out a survey to all Y7 students earlier this week, I did not expected the results to cause me to consider the philosophy of life and maths as much as this response did #MathsToday More generally, I'm interested to find how our student attitudes to Maths may change as Y7 progresses

Very interesting and informative report from the Sutton Trust around how opportunity for students is affected by location, gender, background. Was surprised by some of the trends shown in the report. Would recommend anyone in education in the UK reads this www.suttontrust.com/our-research...

Saw something recently about AI making an incorrect quadratic graph. Gave me an idea to use AI to create "common sense" check questions. Students often don't check if their answer makes sense. I try to embed this in my teaching, this will help. Started with quadratics #mathstoday shorturl.at/Y7jfq

I asked Gemini to make a pre-req check for eqns of horizontal/vertical lines, starting with plotting coordinates. Gave back some questions I wouldn't have thought of. Will be great discussion/thinking questions for my group. Finding lots of use for AI as a partner to plan lessons. #mathstoday

Some schools do a test at the end of every topic. For some, this can mean 10 tests a year, not including end of year. This may be trying to game the testing effect, but this isn't increasing outcomes as much as you may think. We test three times a year. open.substack.com/pub/joel1201...

Been finding it helpful to get GCSE coverage of topics easily (as quick recaps) with AI-generated questions, rather than snipping from various sources. Pythagoras example here The flexibility, for example, of asking for one question to be changed in a certain way is great #MathsToday #ukmathschat

Was in an art museum gift shop earlier, in Milan, and came across these round dice. Never seen them before, but found the idea an interesting hook for teaching around fairness when rolling dice. They're weighted, so it lands without rolling off the table! I bought one because they look fantastic
