#30DayMapChallenge Day 26: Map Projections I chose the Gingery projection for today's challenge as it gave me a chance to reproduce Cram's Air Age U.S. Centric World map. This was all about the detail, from vintage textures to projection labels. All in Plot! observablehq.com/@jwolondon/t...
A reproduction of the 1940s air travel map. The title at the top reads "Cram's Air Age U.S. Centric World, Gingery Projection". Below it against a light brown background is a wold map composing 6 lobes looking like petals of a flower with the US in the centre, Asia in the top two lobes, Australia in the left, Africa in the right and South America in the bottom-right. Antarctica is split between the bottom two lobes. Over the contentious is a network of red lines representing flying routes between major world cities and the US. To the left and right of the main map are two circular maps showing the northern and southern hemispheres on a an azimuthal equidistant projection.Detail of the previous map showing part of Antarctica with labels "Pacific Ocean" and the lines of longitude converging towards the South Pole. It also shows the slight textured pattern in the blue ocean and yellow continent. To the right is a section of text, partly cut off by the inset, bit with the title "Uses of Tape" visible.Another inset detail from the main map, showing Europe and red crossing flight lines.Another inset showing detail of the main map centred on the left lobe with Australia to the left, a label at the tip reading "Tip of Gore 90 degrees E - 40 degrees S". Red flight lines can be see connecting a city off the map to the right with Sydney and another city off the top of the insert.
