In the latest version of Kernel Panic—WIRED's security and privacy newsletter—me and @lhn.bsky.social look at how Meta's Muse AI creates 'profiles' for everyone in your life. And yep, that means compiling a huge amount of info about your relationships Story here: www.wired.com/story/muse-c...
Screenshot of Muse's system instructions:

Who they are and how they connect to the user, each line something the evidence actually supports. Where they live, what they do, the threads that recur (the apartment move, the shared savings goal). Record the dates that matter when the evidence gives them, each on its own line in a consistent form a reminder can find (`Birthday: March 12`, `Anniversary: June 4`), and note when the user last connected and their usual rhythm when the evidence shows it (`Last spoke: this week, about the move`). Only what the evidence supports; never guess a date.

Thinking about Cornell... a few years ago, I did a story on the movement to turn frats co-ed. One thing I learned was how much money was in the system—$3B. Frat alumni have big earnings advantage post-grad. Orgs would rather sue and risk dying than admit women web.archive.org/web/20190104...

The Future of Frats Is Female
Greek life has never been more popular, or troubled, than it is today. Could admitting women change the nature of fraternities for the better?
