They weren’t allowed to do the testing, but were supposed to submit the bats for testing and report back to the clients. But I have questions about how they could do what they did without more licensing/oversight to prevent this level of unethical murderous failure.

Here’s an article on it. I know of at least one Mpls person who has been referred for a post exposure vaccination due to ASAP Wildlife Services falsifying a negative rabies report. @wedge.live www.fox9.com/news/rabies-...

Rabies testing concerns prompt investigation from Minnesota health officials
The Minnesota Department of Health is searching for customers of a Twin Cities company that it suspects has not been consistently submitting rabies tests for testing.

On the topic of rabies, ASAP Wildlife Services has lied about negative rabies tests and is not cooperating with the state. If you used them between 9/1/25 and 9/9/26, call MDH at 651-201-5368.

Been talking a fair amount about biking-as-accessibility lately, and just shared this 2014 paper from the UK with an interested party. Where is bikes/disability conversation at for you? Any newer reports to recommend? Anything more specific to US laws or practices? www.hdcf.org.uk/wp-content/u...

Sorry for the lack of alt text, running late for kayaking! They are on the walk path between west river parkway and Hennepin Ave, on the downriver side of the federal reserve.

Anyone ever try pince nez? What kind of noses do they (not) work for?

happify @happify.bsky.social · 17/07/2026
Need new glasses (haven't got any since 2010) but zenni only has two in my face size with adjustable nose pads (without those, glasses hit my lashes). What are other stores/sites that people use? Happy to shop brick and mortar, but in 2010 I tried 12 stores locally with no success.

AQI in Minneapolis is now 530. It’s over 80 degrees at 11pm. For neighbors without air conditioning, and our neighbors experiencing unsheltered homelessness, these are incredibly dangerous conditions. I’ll be out tomorrow with masks and cold water, checking on neighbors. Please do the same.

I can’t speak to all filters, but generally the accumulating dust on a filter increases its efficacy because the dust itself becomes part of the filtering effect

Looks like Grand Marais’s AQI peaked today at 2259, though their graph stops at 1000. I’m a ball of worry for…everyone, and especially those who’re most at risk and with the least protection.
A screenshot of a graph of AQI readings for PM2.5 in Grand Marais, under the heading “hazardous” showing the wildfire smoke move in yesterday. The y axis tops out at 1000, but a text box states the max AQI was 2559 somewhere in there.

WOULD BE REALLY COOL IF THE CITY OF MINNEAPOLIS HAD SOME SORT OF OPT-IN EMERGENCY ALERT SYSTEM FOR SITUATIONS LIKE THIS WITH INFORMATION ON HOW TO TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF AND YOU COULD SHARE IT. Goddamn what the hell is going on here y'all. Not a notification since the heat alert on Monday, shame.

Omg, thank you! My brain is hijacked by the book I’m reading right now and you both articulated what I was aiming for and did the research! I really appreciate it—I’m thinking that my microclimate might be both higher temp and lower humidity, but will look to track both if/when I try.

I like imagining the a/b testing to learn this! I was going to put aside a shareable amount for the “pests” because it seems rude to put out delicious foods and not share at all with neighbor-creatures who might see or smell them!

I’m planning to use shallow woven natural fiber baskets, wrapped in netting. Basically what I do for dehydrating or drying plant material in the winter, but aiming to add in sun/wind/heat, in a more humid environment. How to facilitate this without spoilage?

happify @happify.bsky.social · 01/07/2026
Any of you have experience with dehydrating foods outside in hot weather? I feel decently confident in my hardware to enable this and protect said foods from birds/pests, but not sure what weather conditions will suffice or how often to give things a shake.

No idea, dating objects is hard especially when acquired without known lineage but the vaaaast majority of what I own/use is secondhand (curb/dumpster, thrift store, garage sale, Craigslist, hand-me-down), except shoes, contact lenses, toothbrush, 2 stools bought in 2010. Most furniture is pre-60s.

My father also said when he worked in Sewal, IA (on the MO border) in the 40s, the county road that is lyndale went through there too, which did seem accurate when I checked up on it.

There was a time driving with my brother back from his college that we saw Lyndale near a gas station just north of Iowa and decided to take it (instead of highway) back to Mpls. We were in at least the 34x block south. It…took a while.

Sidewalks are never cleared and the way the city/county/state clear roads actually make sidewalks worse than if they did nothing, yet no libertarians among pedestrians…

There's a big split between Native community residents (west of Hiawatha) and Native social services (east of Hiawatha). At the very least a suit would add to pressure to address this.

40+ minute walking detours on days like today are actively dangerous for some people, especially in a city with no benches, water fountains, or restrooms on the route.
