Nutters in the RE department invited a reformed IRA terrorist to give an assembly. He raved about how he gave it all up after finding God, before illustrating his former life by asking one kid to look under their seat - where he'd put a fake bomb. Parents went apeshit. Think it made the local paper.

I have spent weeks shadowing the RNLI and I can tell you, they do it out of nothing more than compassion. Wrote about the heroes I've met over the years in this free-to-read post. nicolakelly.substack.com/p/the-rnli-a...

If I were PM, I'd force every one of the people - I use the term loosely - who attack the RNLI to watch this astonishing BBC film about the Penlee Lifeboat disaster. I'd then have them shoved off the end of a pier, so it's just as well I'm only a freelance writer. www.youtube.com/watch?v=yeIX...

Twenty-five years ago, I was part of the army of freelance sub-editors schlepping between newspapers and mags in London. Diary for 11 Sep was a double-booking: a day shift at FHM and an evening at the Daily Express.

Elaine by Abba, B-side to Winner Takes It All. An amazing synthpop oddity that sounds like nothing else they did - it's like a collision of Laura Branigan, Yazoo and acid house. Only know it because I went to France in February 1981, where radio DJs flipped the single and put it on heavy rotation.
