Theory bite! This is probably something that cis people would find useful, as much or more than trans people, because a lot of cis people participate in it in conversations about transness and trans folks ;3

"Epistemicide" is a term you should become very familiar with in all discussions regarding trans oppression.

It sounds fancier than it is. The term is related to the concept of epistemic injustice. In essence, trans people have historically been subject to a form of epistemicide: our stories, histories, testimonials, ways of life, all erased and buried to maintain the patriarchal myth of dichotomous, naturalized, immutable sex.

We are then further marginalized through epistemic injustice, prevented from participating in the processes of knowledge-production, our testimonies devalued, our voices suppressed and our identities defined for us, not by us. The perception of us shaped by others, instead of ourselves. The conversation about us dominated by the voices of those who'd rather stamp us out, shouting over us constantly.

If you're not accounting for this as a central mechanism animating transphobia, you're missing a lot of the picture.

Passports didn't have a gender marker before 1978 when the UN made them mandatory because of "the rise of unisex fashion and hairstyles." Removing them would require a change in rules from the UN's International Civic Aviation Organization.

• The State as inseparable from its subjects
• Nationalism with a distinctly modern character -- pride in the Nation's past fuels change in the present to accomplish an ideal future
• Religiosity, again with a modern character -- it is a deeply spiritual ideology
• My take: it's attempting to reconcile the objective reality of modern day society with past superstitions, although how this point specifically develops depends highly on the country it's happening in
• Intensely moralistic -- sees world in "objective" black-and-white judgements, moralism is what makes one human

• Anti-individualist
• Views socialism as individualist -- reasoning is that focusing on the treatment/rights of minorities inherently contradicts the majority of the collective
• Anti-materialist -- vehemently rejects any reality that isn't ideal
• Anti-socialist/communist/Marxist
• Anti-anarchist
• Anti-liberal
• Anti-intellectual
• Claims not to be anti-science, but it really is because it only accepts that which agrees with fascist ideology
• Anti-stagnation -- urgent need for immediate action

• Totalitarianism, a word Gentile uses directly - the State is trusted to make the best decisions for the masses, questioning it causes too many issues and strife. This is the result of the following three characteristics:
• Anti-political, honestly -- politics are handed by a select elite, the masses should not play a role nor think that deeply about it

• A deep-seated fear that existence is ultimately meaningless
• Need for control & certainty
• Exaltation & romanticization of warfare -- keeps fascistic fervor alive within a Nation
• Intensely patriarchal & paternalistic

• Cult of personality, a belief in the Great Man
• Implicit belief in class hierarchies
National subjects are political subjects, everyone else serves as an "instrument" to the State but are not considered political subjects and are therefore not represented by the State
