I wrote about the campus sexual assault crisis that never went away despite the public moving on after the Obama era; the material ways SA punishes victims the rest of their lives while assailants are systematically rewarded; and just tried to put to words what I think is going unsaid right now:

The Campus Sexual Assault Crisis Never Went Away
At Cornell, a district attorney dismissed an alleged rape case without ever speaking to Jane Doe—and her story is all too common.

This was a good read today too. "I think there’s plenty of reasons why voting early is smart and tactically sound and grounded. But if I was keeping it simple, Kelly, I would just say it frees more people up to do more other kinds of important work." - @ashdashlee.bsky.social

...don't let high-profile cases become thinkpiece wars or abstract outrage posturing: evergreen call to find the people doing this work (campus advocates, community resources, etc.) and find concrete ways to support them. Maybe it's donations, signal-boosting, becoming an advocate yourself, etc.

...I try to land on that point when I do consent programming: we can't minimize the scope of the problem, but we also shouldn't minimize the power of the advocates, survivors, and organizers actively *doing* the work to address the problem. Real shifts have happened; it's not enough. Both are true.

Hi I'm Kyle, poet in Minneapolis, and this is one of my all-time favorite questions. I wrote a whole poem about these individual song moments: guante.info/tension If I had to pick one, though, maybe the famous "freedom" bridge/transition in Aretha Franklin's Think. A whole universe in that shift.

Came back from a social media break because I had stuff to promote: the "Witness" anthology, a creative writing career resources e-book, an anti-AI zine, etc. But the point of the break was to write, and there's more to do. So off I go again. Find that other stuff, though, at guante.info/latest

ICE has fallen out of the headlines but July marked the largest number of migrant detentions ever on record. Five migrants have died in ICE custody in the last two months. It's also currently impossible to legally migrate to this country, as 100% of visa applications have been paused.

...and beyond that, I know I'm a sucker for this kind of song, but WHAT a song. My personal theory is that there are a ton of cool connections between Rodrigo and Springsteen as songwriters/performers (I could give a full lecture on this but won't here), and this track is more fuel for that fire.

My tactic: I write “thank you!” then sign my name, then add the date and location. That last part is like a way to personalize it without expending endless amounts of energy actually personalizing it. My hope is that it becomes a fun souvenir of the moment, not just about me.
