ICE has notified me that another person has died in their custody. This is the 58th death under ICE’s watch since Trump returned to office. That’s 58 too many. We need to dismantle ICE, eliminate private, for-profit detention centers, and reform our broken immigration system.

You'd think it'd be enough for him that he's been allowed to commit genocide with nothing more than the mildest of superficial opposition, but no. He also expects to be applauded for it.

I have a friend who told me that his nightmare is getting into an accident on the highway. Not because he might be killed, but because of how much lost productivity it would cause the economy. That he could work a dozen lifetimes and never repay what he'd cost by making so many people late for work.

A Christmas Carol has been done to death, so I can understand wanting to put a different spin on it, but it's a classic for a reason. It works because Scrooge does not have any good arguments, he's a miserable old fucker who hates Christmas and says stuff like "the poor should just die actually".

What he's not taking into account, and doesn't care about, is that there are streets and parks on the US side that have "Ontario" in their name, that will now have to decide if they want to waste a bunch of money on rebranding. I highly doubt Ontario will be changing any signage on the Canada side.

Some people are so universally beloved that I think we shouldn’t be told when they die. Let us figure it out eventually but never receive confirmation. We should always be able to idly speculate that somehow there’s a chance they *could* still be alive

After fifteen years of studying the anti-vax movement, I came to the conclusion that upholding legal requirements for vaccines for school entry is the single most important thing we can do. You cannot use facts to convince someone who did not employ facts to make their decision. So use the law.

Dear Americans, I know it's nice to see someone stand up to Trump but you should know that Doug Ford is basically Trump Light. Same story, wealthy buisnessman running as a right wing populist and a political career full of corruption and scandals. He used to praise Trump until the tariffs started.

Film you've watched more than six times with a gif Hard mode: No Star Strek, Star Wars, LOTR, Marvel, Disney, or Ghibli. As a teen I'd watch whatever anime I could get my hands on until the VHS tape wore out. EoE was up there in rewatches, and so was this.

I feel like this would fall apart very quickly if it were actually challenged. There's plenty of evidence that the concept was wildly in use prior to the film. It's not even the first adaptation of the material. This would be like trying to copyright a fairy tale or an urban legend.

There's a lot that could be said about this, not the least of which is that Tolkien wouldn't have supported this shitty project. But it's really just a lazy, racist excuse to cast all white. Middle-Earth was not a real place, and you have the creative freedom to make artistic choices in adapting it.

Anime Costco except they don't stock anything more then a few months old. It's not hard to see how this feeds into Sonys push to drive people to an all digital environment. They bought the biggest physical media retailer for anime in NA and have in the span of a few years completely dismantled it.

This is the core problem. Whether a senator is a Democrat or a Republican, they're all still peers and friends. They are not friends with grocery store clerks or uber drivers or janitors. Whatever disagreements they might have, they're still on the same team. And that team doesn't include you.

The percentage of Americans who believe in the Rapture and that they are living through the biblical end times is about that same as those who support Trump and think he's doing good job. Just a funny little coincidence I'm sure.

One possible reading of this (very stupid) definition of a women means that a woman who has gone through menopause, like 60 year old J.K. Rowling for instance, would cease to be a woman once her ovaries shrink and stop producing eggs.

Pledges and policies are irrelevant if they don't get atmospheric CO2 levels down, which to date they haven't. Year over year the amount of CO2 in the air continues to go up. This doesn't mean you should embrace doomerism but thinking that we're "doing great" is demonstrably false.
A chart of atnospheric CO2 levels from 1960 when they were below 320 PPM to today where they have reached over 430 PPM.

The only thing that makes social media tolerable is the ability to block people you don't want to deal with. There is no shame in it. I don't hang out with random racists and assholes offline, and I have no interest in listening to their bullshit online.

What else is there to say? Anything else is just going to give the leakers more attention. Shame though, this is definitely going to lead to people shouting "Snape kills Dumbledore" type spoilers at fans in theatres on opening night. Don't be that asshole. Let people watch their cartoon in peace.

It should be said that this comes from a very small, non-peer reviewed study, but the results aren't surprising. These systems seem to be capable of a lot of poorly understood harm, and the people pushing for everyone to adopt this tech aren't very curious to find out just how harmful they might be.

This one is old but not old enough to be included in the Nerd Inferno omnibus. The saddest thing about it is that it isn't just for freelancers anymore. Good luck to us all.
A four-panel comic called Cartooning Benefits Package, which depicts a shower as vacation time, a failing go fund me as health insurance, and death as retirement. Your cartoonist mileage may vary. Also works for the arts and freelancing in general, and, these days, working life in general.

The reasons why Redline works, especially over so many other driving animes, is that it shows speed as a force with context. Because there’s so many ways to show it. What it does specifically is 1) allowing the concept of Ka to play out, the moments of stillness to accentuate the movement

I know to Americans this sounds like a bunch of idiots are mismanaging their country into the ground. And it is, at least partially. But from North of the border this sort of talk feels a lot more ominously like the sort of thing you'd say as part of a campaign to justify seizing parts of Canada.

Something Americans might not understand, and which the administration definitely doesn't, is that this started as a grass roots movement. Lots of Canadians were aggressively boycotting as many American products as they could before the provincial liquor authorites stepped in and formalized the ban.

I sit in a filthy Czech apartment eating a writhing plate of stopmotion meat, bread, and finishing nails. Each bite I take forces blobs of clay to spill out of my ears and pile up on my head. My brain grows ever larger until it sprouts a set of clattering teeth which then eat me. I am enlightened.

A cover for the comic book The Maxx. On the left Julie Winters is facing forward but half her head is morphing into a plant. It would be nice if I thought any of these creatures could feel shame or embarrassment but guys like Vance will keep gormlessly regurgitating Trumps talking points until they fail their way into a cozy private sector job or they find the next Trump to latch onto like the political lampreys they are.
