“Maybe you won’t die alone” I can tell this is more of an autobiographical aspiration for him

Wait, did the mayor cast “cone of silence”??!!?! I’m no D&D occult expert but if what Jack Chick told me is true, that stuff is hella demonic. Woe to the Ottumwans!

Accusing the mayor of NYC of committing genocide is about as empty as it gets. Also cheapens the seriousness of genocide.

Exactly. Sure, there can be serious points of contention with what Mamdani is doing. The bigger point is: to think that by shouting from the streets how bad Mamdani is, is how to best change policy or win support for the cause, is to be accurately and succinctly described by the OP’s meme.

Personally, dealing with your lot I think it’s more of a “in the country of the blind the one-eyed man is king” sort of thing but, hey, if you say so

This is basicallythe same logic Israeli lunatics use to claim there are no innocent Palestinians: “they voted for or support Hamas” etc Think “Onion Person” grasps the equivalence to the terrorist rhetoric they despise?

why Talarico’s approach has legs: pull back the veil to force public confrontation re: their discord with Christ’s teachings; peel some of the less committed away from the death cult; but most impactfully limit their recruitment prospects to those who openly defy Christ for the sake of power.

He’s just a guy being “charged with genocide.” So he’s equivalent to Pol Pot et al.? Given the facts that’s pretty asinine on its face. Didn’t see anything resembling an argument to support that extraordinary claim in this thread. Just hyperbole and innuendo. Y’all aren’t serious.

Here the scale of displacement isn’t taxi cabs and unionized drivers, but all workers everywhere. The real payout is downstream of that prospect, so consider what they’re really after to make all this seemingly sunk investment worthwhile. Efforts big and small to create friction are a public good!

gain in value measured objectively, i.e. productivity—they seek domination. Think Uber losing money for 8 years to corner the market—itself an old robber baron tactic. This kind of lopsided risk/reward long con is a much more accepted way of doing business in our grotesquely stratified era.

Very important point, and I’ll add that while this looks like madness to us normies (who measure value in antiquated concepts like productivity), we have to consider the investor class perspective. They aren’t that stupid; they view this as a loss leader; the actual ROI they’re seeking isn’t as much

Santa Sangre (1990) has some spectacular scenes, and great use of vibrant color and darkness. Maybe not true horror but I Walked With a Zombie (1943) is a true beauty Son of Frankenstein (1939) is visually stunning, stands out among the Universal classics. The Wailing (2016) deserves mention imho

What's the most beautiful horror movie you've ever seen? I would say Kwaidan, though I realize that's a pretty basic answer. But given Kwaidan as a benchmark, can you recommend a horror (or horror-adjacent) movie in that league, or even more gorgeous?

The government doesn’t track how often immigration agents detain U.S. citizens. So ProPublica did. We’ve tallied more than 500 Americans held against their will in warrantless arrests and detentions during President Trump’s second term.

I give a lecture at UM every year on (+ other things) the process of integrating college football. The parallels here are exact. As today, conservatives deeply understood sports' role as a playground for ideology. They rigorously enforced color barriers knowing Black success would convey equality.

While other outlets were calling Musk a mercurial genius, MAD Magazine had the journalistic courage to let me call him a bigot. Twice. #SatireMatters
"Free Speeches On The Beaches" appeared in the April 2023 issue of MAD Magazine. The parody of Dr. Seuss' The Sneetches discussed Musk decision to sell blue check marks and called him out for turning Twitter into a cesspool of bigotry. The illustrations are by Marc Palm. This is a single panel from a one-page parody of The Apprentice called "The Oligarch." The full version can be seen in the MAD Magazine issue #43.

A silhouetted figure that appears to be Donald Trump asks Elon Musk to show what he did for this week's task of redesigning the American flag. Musk says "My flag design represents America after my troop of programmers *fix* all of the countries vital systems." The flag resembles a Nazi flag, but instead of showing a swastika in the center circle, it instead has a "404 Error" message.

The article was written by Matt Cohen and illustrated by Hermann Mejia.

I’ve never seen that happen. Medicare patients always got their hundred days in post acute rehab as long as they made progress. Medicare Advantage were lucky to make it past a month regardless.

💯 During my years in hc administration I saw countless instances of private insurance (incl Medicare Advantage) deny claims for no reason. Incl IP rehab pts sent home before they were ready. Sure, they offer additional services, but can multiply your benefits by zero on a whim. Not safe.

With Jim Bakker’s recent demise 🎉 I read an interview with one of his rape victims. A church secretary whose entire life was defined by the church. Even as she described horrible abuse at his hands, she showered him with praise and supported his movement. Another skeleton key insight to MAGA.

The amount of people who equivocate Medicare Advantage with Medicare, not realizing they’ve sold their Medicare benefit to an HMO in exchange for additional coverage but always under a likelihood of having their claims arbitrarily denied. It’s something

I suspect this is the inexorable result of conservatism to the extent that “might makes right” is its foundational (if unstated) ethos. Certainly it’s the only ideal they haven’t forsaken. Ultimately everything but that core kernel of thick-skulled brutality gets sloughed away.
