The ways the people behind it are trying to infiltrate every aspect of our lives, I think most people are better off not using any of it. Most people aren't coders. Most people shouldn't offload their thinking.

Tomorrow, on October 1, the biggest transfer of wealth from the working class to the wealthy hits a critical milestone. Many of the provisions from the Big Ugly Bill will go into effect, harming hundreds of thousands of Michiganders in order to create tax cuts for the richest people in America.

New: Through a series of complex agreements with cities, the White House built a massive license plate camera database accessible to the feds. The program aggregates data across license plate companies (Flock, Axon, more) & is searchable by many agencies: www.404media.co/how-cities-a...

“The slow blade penetrates the shield” By not signaling itself as an attack using conventional framing (harsh tone of voice, stark contrast/b&w photos, red text, direct condemnation etc) this slips past the defenses of people who aren’t necessarily predisposed to attacking Paxton. This stuff works!

It ends w/ Belafonte consoling Fozzie & a performance of "Turn The World Around". The message, & its resonance, remains undiminished... “Do you know who I am Do I know who you are See we one another clearly Do we know who we are” Belafonte would later perform this song at Jim Henson’s funeral.

A key component of the Cambridge Analytica outrage was your friends subjecting you to data theft without your consent or knowledge. Facebook is running the same playbook on your text messages. Even if you’re not on Meta properties, they’re ingesting your interactions.
Aten installed Muse on both his iPhone and a Mac mini that he uses to test out various Al agents and tech. It took Meta a single day to begin "helpfully" pitching article ideas based on texts he'd sent to a podcast co-host.
When he asked Muse how it got the information, it said that it read banners from incoming texts. But that's not true, either.
After doing a little digging, Aten says Muse synced 187,000 lines from his Messages database, despite Full Disk Access being Off.Unless Aten is the most popular person on the face of the planet, I sincerely doubt he'd gotten 187,000 lines of text in roughly 24 hours. What happened is that, without permission, Muse went into the app and downloaded the information.
He had not given Muse permission to access Messages, and full disk access was not enabled. It just went ahead and uploaded those texts anyway.
Muse can take "unexpected actions" indeed.

True, but they gotta come correct. Dems’ worst weakness with this crowd (and independents generally) is that they often come across as prissy. One of Biden’s biggest strengths is he did not. Going on this show in the first place filters out a lot of of that, just be sure to bring the gusto 🔥

Really important point here, which is that intelligence doesn’t necessarily make you immune to bullshit. Belief formation typically overrides rationality — irrational belief is the baseline, and it can be hacked. Now what makes people more vulnerable to the hacking? No simple answer I’m sure…

One of my favorite poems since childhood, and a poem I share every #autumnequinox. By the 12thc warrior poet Xin Qiji 辛棄疾, sidelined during peacetime, demoted, drifting through a decade of minor posts in remote lands. Poetry, then, is that which is left unsaid. “My, what a cool and lovely autumn.”

I wonder how many of us had a similar lightbulb moment. For me, it was walking through the Hall of Mirrors and then seeing, on the other side, this painting called “Louis XIV Presenting Peace to Europe.” Looked at it, read the plaque, went “yep, glad they all got guillotined.”
Description of the painting shameless stolen from another site: “Louis XIV Presenting Peace to Europe', early 18th century. Louis XIV (1638-1715), King of France from 1643, known as The Sun King (Le Roi Soleil). Allegorical picture showing Louis, dressed as a Roman warrior, handing an olive branch to a figure representing Europe. From the Chateau of Versailles, France.”

Telling when people do not evaluate a person’s actions or statements directly, but rely on the personal characteristics of the source as a proxy for veracity or morality, and confuse the proxy with—or refuse to distinguish it from—what’s meaningful. It’s not just stupid; it’s dangerous thinking.

This month's @motherjones.com cover is astounding. Reposted with alt text:
Cover of the September-October issue of Mother Jones Magazine: a white background with the words "50 years of fearless journalism" in black print, centered above the name/logo of the magazine in large Bright Red. Below that in black, the words "the southern strategy — jim crow was dead and buried. Then came the Roberts court."

And then, framing those words, there are two sets of robes: to the left, the simple black robes of the Judicial Branch of the United States Government, as a Supreme Court Justice might wear; to the right, the white robes and hood of the KKK.

A white person's hand with cuff of business suit and shirt visible, reaches into the scene from the right, poised to grab the Klan robes.
