(it also might be that thinking of this stuff in terms of numbers is deadly to your creativity and wellness and love of the gig, which is also super valid and something that's good to know about yourself, by the way)

it may mean you don't work full time in capes/floppies. it may even mean that for you to be healthy and have longevity in the field, you'll need to keep a day job. it might just mean you need to study and improve your craft more before you go full time. but they're YOUR numbers, your health 🤝

which is, in the end, just my way of saying--there's no one answer to this question, and while certain types of comics may require you to work more quickly than others, it's also possible to have a career in comics without hitting those productivity numbers (or mine), so don't panic!

and i've been told many times that i work quickly, by both publishers and agents! which is just to say that i think there are probably a variety of "industry standards" depending on what you're doing, how much time off you have, how much you're doing (just pencils vs. everything, for example)

i'm seeing some industry standard numbers that are making me anxious even as a pretty fast artist haha. i average about .79 pages a day 5 days a week (if you average it out completely, including full vacation time/days--i did 412 pages in two years (thumbs through colors and letters) for HS)

Clout?? A good reputation?? Comics isn't an entity. It doesn't love you back. Your friends love you. You should love you. Don't hurt yourself for comics. Comics exist FOR YOU. Not the other way around

HUMAN ARTISTS, use only one piece to convince people to follow you. Gotta be my Potion Shop Reimi piece

A detailed illustration of the inside of a potion shop. The owner is a young woman with long brown hair pulled back with cloth, some lavender nestled behind her ear. She is examining a vial in one hand with an ingredient list clutched in the other and is wearing brown dungarees with ingredients strapped to her belt

The cauldron in front of her glows orange as it illuminates shelves full of bottles, ingredients and herbs behind her. There is a stack of books on the bottom left and to the right a tree has grown up through the center of the shop, butterflies swarm around it. There are flowers and hanging plants everywhere and through the window outside outside and around the tree, rain is falling

This is your occasional reminder that generative "AI" in particular could have been developed on public domain materials and/or licensed and compensated works but the major players intentionally, methodically and systemically chose to steal labor from working creative folks instead
