This might be one of the best analogies I’ve ever read. From @hamiltonnolan.bsky.social
Was Hegseth’s speech humiliating for whatever is left of America’s international prestige? Certainly. Was it a big joke? Well, perhaps it was, in the same sense that it is darkly funny that John Wayne Gacy performed as a clown in addition to being a serial killer. It would be a mistake not to recognize that whatever humor can be found in the situation is overpowered by its enormous quantity of darkness.

It’s reassuring to find an essay written by a critically acclaimed author and the entire thing is, “Writing is hard and I do everything I can to avoid doing it. My house is spotless, I’ve helped every friend I have move, and the local animal shelter told me I had to leave. Time to write I guess.”

One thing I never really anticipated before becoming a parent was all the seemingly nonsensical places I would find my child’s dirty, unpaired socks. On laundry day, I scour the house looking for them and without fail will find two or three the next day inside a box under a table.

In a normal administration counterintelligence agents at the FBI would be investigating this photo. In this administration, the FBI director is in the photo.
Michael Weiss: Why, that’s Ali Abdelaziz is on the far left. Manages a lot of Russian, Belarusian and Chechen MMA fighters including Khamzat Chimaev, who is close to Kadyrov. Abdelaziz was an FBI informant until the Bureau dropped him because they suspected he was a double agent. Looks like Ka$h (far right) has forgiven and forgotten. These MAGA weddings are Mos Eisley cantinas for counterintelligence.

Love how the IRS is like, “Hey it took us three years to find a potential mistake on your taxes. You have two weeks to gather all the info to dispute it or else you have it pay it plus late fees and interest that’s been magically accruing even though we just found out about this mistake.”

NEWS: The DOJ lawyer defending Trump's ban on
CNN, MSNBC and Politico is Michael Velchik. In college, he wrote a Latin class essay from Hitler's point of view, so disturbing his instructor made him redo it. In 2013 he called Mein Kampf his favorite book he'd read that year and praised Hitler's grasp of propaganda without mentioning the Holocaust.
This is the man now arguing in federal court that the press has no right to White House access.

This is correct - personal experiences of needing social services makes people, including policymakers, more opposed to imposing administrative burdens (which is how they are breaking SNAP and Medicaid) academic.oup.com/jpart/articl...
• When a policymaker has personal, firsthand experience navigating a welfare system or public service, their tolerance for administrative burden significantly drops. © Oxford Academic
• Conversely, policymakers without personal experience are much more likely to tolerate or actively support high administrative burdens, often driven by political ideology or a perception that the target population is "undeserving".
