Greg @gregmorenz.bsky.social · 05/10/2026No, that model is trained on CC-BY and similarly licensed works that demand attribution - which the resulting model does not give in the required manner. It violates copyright to the exact same extent that training on all rights reserved data does. 3590
Greg @gregmorenz.bsky.social · 01/10/2026This is disappointing. He was by far the most interesting candidate (not necessarily the same as best). Putting for proposals to do things instead of trying his hardest to just repeat sentiments everyone in the party agrees with... 070
Greg @gregmorenz.bsky.social · 21/09/2026The week long deadline the eighth circuit here seems in violation of that ruling, which imposed its own deadline of merely "timely sought". The word timely is explicitly defined in SCOTUS rules for a petition for a writ of certiorari to mean 90 days, not 7. 000
Greg @gregmorenz.bsky.social · 21/09/2026And before anyone gives the eight circuit credit for the pause, SCOTUS explicitly stayed the district court ruling until after SCOTUS had a chance to review any eight circuit decision. The eight circuit didn't have the power to not grant a stay here. 131

Greg @gregmorenz.bsky.social · 09/09/2026You can then make a local proxy that forwards to tailscales servers without sending SNI, tell tailscale to use that proxy as the control plane, and everything just works. 100
Greg @gregmorenz.bsky.social · 09/09/2026I was sitting around in a hospital waiting room that blocked tailscale... and occupied myself by figuring out how to bypass it. If they're blocking via SNI sniffing like the hospital was - tailscales servers don't care if you set an SNI. 120

Greg @gregmorenz.bsky.social · 07/09/2026In the example I question the utility of the descriptions of the colours - instead of noting which cards were modified (what the colours mean)... It has a lot of detail, but not the right detail... less verbosity OR the right detail would be better... I wouldn't be satisfied if it was my writing. 110
Greg @gregmorenz.bsky.social · 07/09/2026The practice seems fine to me if you're reviewing the text for quality. Otherwise, probably controversially, I'd wonder if it's better than doing literally nothing (AI models improve - saved alt text doesn't) 230

Greg @gregmorenz.bsky.social · 19/07/2026Around here e-bikes are bizarrely not "motor vehicles" by law. There are signs against motor vehicles on paths where some classes of e-bikes are explicitly allowed. There are laws like non-bylaw-speed-limits that bizarrely don't apply if you're on a (e)bike. It's like it's designed to cause chaos. 020

Greg @gregmorenz.bsky.social · 12/07/2026Yeah, I'd be pretty happy with that. Perhaps the way to think about this isn't as an admin action, but as remote management for my own devices? Not sure how much sense that makes when scaling away from personal tailnets though. 100
Greg @gregmorenz.bsky.social · 11/07/2026As a default enabled thing, definitely terrifying. I have friends on my personal tailnet and don't want me getting hack to imply they get hacked... The control plane now becomes an avenue for a cyber attack with huge blast radius (though tbh I assume any software with auto updates already is). 140
Greg @gregmorenz.bsky.social · 08/07/2026Yeah I was proposing solutions that easily show we can improve the problem. Not necessarily the best solutions (I haven't done the work to have a strong opinion on what those are). That said, the numbers above show that line 1 is better but still really really bad. 210

Greg @gregmorenz.bsky.social · 08/07/2026E.g. this study claims the difference between a road and background is ~2 μg/m^3 - my gut feeling is that's probably an underestimate since the sensors aren't literally on the road like a bike is, but not by an order of magnitude: www.sciencedirect.com/science/arti...sciencedirect.com 010
Greg @gregmorenz.bsky.social · 08/07/2026Roads aren't perfect, but they're nowhere near the hundreds of micro μg/m^3 the subway is. Probably would be worse if you stuck them in a similar tunnel. Not unavoidable at all. Doors keeping the dirty break air in the tunnel and off the platform for instance. Or cycling in more outside air. 310
Greg @gregmorenz.bsky.social · 08/07/2026I'm seem to be more sensitive air quality than most... but surely you can smell the break dust... that sort of fine particulate isn't good for you long term even if you have no immediate reaction. Greg @gregmorenz.bsky.social · 08/07/2026None of this is fundamental. But the city I'm in (Toronto) just doesn't seem to care about making transit pleasant being some low minimum threshold. And I have the luxury of alternatives thanks to not being disabled, and money. 020
Greg @gregmorenz.bsky.social · 08/07/2026I've almost entirely stopped. The transit is just unpleasant. Terrible air quality in the subway. Terrible suspension on the bus.
