Our kid will eat pasta cooked in whole milk, reduced until it’s a sort of accidental roux via the starch released into the pan, like it’s the best dish in the world.

We created gyms because modern day work no
longer required physical activity. Without exercise,
our muscles atrophy.
I predict we'll need gyms for our brains too, once Al
starts doing our knowledge work.

If anyone still wonders about how Jimmy Savile got away with it, just read all the tributes to Archer that refer more prominently to his charity work than his crimes. There’s a big part of it.

UK PMs should gift army starter sets to world leaders when they meet like how Denmark use Lego for diplomacy, IMO.

Either don’t do it at all or judge everyone by the same standard. Plenty of churches, mosques, temples etc with their own problematic positions or associations, and sometimes a lot worse than problematic too…

Britain sold off its #1 most important public infrastructure and it was then cold-bloodedly ransacked for decades. If ending that (almost unique, internationally) deranged experiment produces doubts for "investors" that probably says more about the nature of their investment than "the rule of law"

I think if we had an elected House of Lords, I’d actually insist that candidates to be MP of someone has to be a local resident with proof of prior, long-term settlement and living in area. I understand the argument of best people, regardless of location, but make that an option for the Lords.

If there were trans men and trans women in Parliament, given roles of actual influence, we’d also see some actual humane, common sense governance. Same goes for every community feeling left behind who currently think Reform is the only way.

It makes me want more of it, more than ever. I don’t mean more Andy Burnhams. We need everyone to experience that sense of representation, relatability if we want to pull the country together and sort ourselves out.

It’s one thing to think you understand the value of representation and want to see more of it, albeit in an almost academic way. It’s quite another when you get a PM that sounds like you and where you grew up. Not a comment on how good he and his policies are. It’s just quite a thing to experience.

This is almost, but not quite, as funny as when Saudi Arabia was simultaneously attesting to the Premier League that PIF was not an official government entity and arguing in American court that PIF was officially just the Saudi Government and thus exempt from a number of statutory regulations.

I'm not sharing the Braverman posts because every single one of them addresses the wrong problem. The problem is not a fringe politician expounding on her 19th century racial science theories. The problem is a publicly funded broadcaster platforming and normalising them. Several times a day.
