Here's today's column on the astonishing, ongoing mistreatment of people with #ME/CFS. Please spread it far and wide: the only thing which can break the media's wall of indifference is seeing an article about the issue go viral. Thank you. 1/2 www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

Abandoned, dismissed and gaslighted: there is no excuse for the way ME sufferers have been betrayed | George Monbiot
Changes in guidance and science seem to have little impact on millions of devastated lives. It’s a social crisis playing out behind closed doors, says Guardian columnist George Monbiot

Self-install / plug-in batteries are coming though, so worth keeping an eye on those developments over the coming months as would certainly be the cheapest option vs. a professionally installed unit.

Installation was straightforward; ~2hrs to hook up to the inverter. We have 19.2kWh usable, so a fair bit (but have a fully electric house w/ heat pump). Expensive for sure, but if you can afford up front then the payback period is quite short (and getting shorter with rising energy costs).

Haha, exactly that. And I taught myself Modbus along the way (so if my inverter provider ever goes bust or starts charging for their cloud service I can just run everything locally myself). 16x 485W panels split across an east/west roof is generating up to 38kWh a day right now 😍

The only small niggle is the side-mounted USB-C port, which looks a bit awkward even with a 90 degree connector.

Pimoroni’s firmware and MicroPython display libraries are also nice to work with.

I’m happy with it so far 👍 touchscreen is responsive enough, and it’s about the right size for viewing a few figures / charts from a couple of meters away whilst also having just enough resolution to not look a mess up close.

This is a Pimoroni Presto display: shop.pimoroni.com/products/pre... And it’s connecting to the inverter directly over Modbus TCP - no cloud service dependency.

@ramoneskaraoke.bsky.social this is brilliant, thank you so much! I already have one pippyg which I’m testing with my local bats before taking it out to the woods at Warleigh, and we can certainly put more to good use…

I've based it on research that "typical" halving distance (for NO2 pollutants at least) is around 17m, but that varies wildly of course due to local factors and weather. So within these constraints, I'd consider it "to scale", but your mileage will vary of course (apologies for the pun).

On the ethical side, yes there are definitely large charges needed from both drivers and planners (as highlighted in the additional points), as well as a wholesale move away from combustion-based vehicles of course. But an immediate step that people can take to reduce current harms seems worthwhile.

The room smells faintly of soot (chimney clearly needs sweeping) but hot air can all go out the same tube, right? 🤔

Lower Thames Crossing will destroy 0.32 hectares of ancient woodland per km, which is 3x the 0.09 hectares of ancient woodland directly impacted per km for HS2. Then there’s the emissions for construction and usage. Both wildly different. Can we please get mad about the right projects.
