I feel like a broken record, but I have to keep saying it over and over again: a farmer bailout won’t do much of anything because the market is gone. There will be no incentive to plant next year. The bailout will help payoff farmer debt to the banks. That’s all.

Idk I feel like this is one of those things that gets effectively astroturfed to make developers easy money. I like urbanism & I like green space- we have different infrastructure and environmental needs than a lot of the european models people point to.

Road dust gives kids permanent lung problems. NY congestion pricing is a good example & a model of what can be done before we pave over everything. Heat waves surrounded by concrete are 10-20 deg F hotter where green microclimate buffers make shit easier for everybody for no infrastructure buy-in.

imo zoning is the first issue. Areas around universities that get rezoned go from "single family homes" to 6 unit apartments w shared kitchen without any infrastructure changes & get to keep green space. Shared public amenities also allow for much smaller unit size to prioritize density.

Used to work by their stormwater facility. Extremely weird the idea that we should be paving over habitat that filters air & water & takes at least several decades to "reconstruct" when there's giant parking lots and vacant commercial buildings everywhere.
