This summer, wildfires tore through two of Europe’s most valuable peatlands: Belgium’s High Fens and England’s Great Fen. Peatlands are major carbon stores, but only while they stay wet.

We went batty with our Little Bugs on Wednesday, learning all about bats for #InternationalBatNight. We also made use of the massive windfalls in the mud kitchen for fabulously fruity soups and cakes! Wonderful to meet so many new families! @wildlifebcn.org #preschool #outdoorlearning

Looking at the Holme Fen NNR/SSSI fire from space What do you do on a sunny(ish) bank holiday? I examined how the Holme Fen National Nature Reserve changed after the August 2026 fire using Sentinel-2 satellite images. I analysed the data using Google Earth Engine.

One of 8 Red Underwing I counted on the Rothschild Bungalow at Woodwalton Fen NNR yesterday. Their camouflage works best against crusty bark rather than slats. And, there's no camo at all when they're in flight, bright flash of red, black, and white, no photo tho' #teamMoth

It was battle of the rafts at our first Wild in the Woods Day Camp! What a brilliant activity. They worked to design and build their own unique rafts, then gently lowered them into the main pond to see who's would float (or withstand attack!). #summerholidays #schoolholidays #activitiesforkids
