Lawyers sometimes have a funny way of thinking about time. They can be very teleological, and when they read constitutional text, they can sometimes imagine that a certain meaning was simply lying dormant in the words, waiting to be unearthed by some ingenious judge. Learning history might help.

I think the class of school administrators (not just in higher ed) who act fast to insulate core pedagogical functions from AI will reap major rewards for their trouble. In a few years, there will be an extremely stark difference between people who used AI in school and people who are competent

Deeply saddened to learn of Gordon Wood's passing. Few have had an equal impact on the study of the American Founding, or on my own intellectual development. No book is more responsible for making me a historian of early constitutional history than Wood's *The Creation of the American Republic*.

Creation is a book I require students to read for their essay on the making of the Constitution, because Wood teaches you to speak the language of republican constitutionalism - the key to understanding the debates of the 1780s. Such a horrible loss. RIP.
