Conservatives like the idea of art, but they hate artists on the basis that their grievance culture sees artists as part of a liberal elite and untrustworthy. Virtually every conservative speaker has railed against funding for the arts to destroy the infrastructure for the production of new artists.

It's depressing how the people who work in creative jobs often get paid crumbs (if at all) for the work they pour their souls into, but even that meager compensation is too much for media companies. To a company, artists are an obstacle to creating a media "product" and must be removed.
