Writing something where I will be liberally citing @lilymasonphd.bsky.social's latest and realizing that I can't cite every single thing I would like to because then I'm just reprinting her work. So, I've gotta thread about it instead. muse.jhu.edu/pub/1/articl...

Have you considered having a town hall in a proper location where constituents can come instead of simply your most devoted supporters?

The labor force participation rate has been in decline since 2010 and took a dip that never recovered after COVID. I'm not going to write a paper, but I suspect that unless that's above a certain threshold, the decline in positivity compounds over time. Or social media, which is probably it.

Socialism is what they called public power. Socialism is what they called social security. Socialism is what they called the growth of free and independent labor organizations. Socialism is their name for almost anything that helps all the people. —Harry Truman, 1952

As one New York financier told Financial Times journalist Gillian Tett, new hires who were seen as “AI natives” are turning out to have alarmingly shallow ideas. So much so, the anonymous finance worker admitted, that his firm now actively avoids seeking out AI-literate STEM graduates, and opts to comb through humanities students instead.

@kenmartin.bsky.social Ken, your interview on Pod Save America was, in a word, disgusting. Ken, it seems like you're dripping with contempt for the voters and donors. Do you understand Ken? That was insufferable to watch Ken.

Why do fascists hate sociology? Because it makes transparent everything fascists don't want you to know. A sociological imagination makes us harder to control. Long live the sociological imagination.

Two recent articles describe the current state of play in the NC-04 Dem primary between incumbent Rep. Valerie Foushee and challenger Commissioner @nidaallam.bsky.social. The first from @indyweek.bsky.social focuses on Wake County voters who are new to the district: indyweek.com/news/politic...

She held two. Two that were capped with low attendance. Congress was closed for over 40 days and she didn't think it was important to talk to us? I'm not happy with the national party either, but 2 in person events in a year is sad. And especially during this past year?

Michael Good @goodmp.bsky.social · 19/02/2026
If you're concerned about seniority, wouldn't it make more sense to get a 32 year old in there instead of a 69 year old? Is 21 million a lot compared to other democrats? These are honest questions and I'm open to hearing the counter argument. I think I know the answers, but I may be wrong.

Michael Good @goodmp.bsky.social · 19/02/2026
That’s pretty sad for all of them. Let’s set a high bar, not settle for a weak second place finish and try to call it a cause to celebrate.

I would love a congresswoman that responded to emails or held a reasonable number of town halls. That feels more important than just 4 years of seniority. Let’s get Nida in there and give her time to get that seniority rather than wasting it on another post-retirement age democrat.

www.reddit.com/r/bullcity/s... I am, once again, disappointed in @foushee.house.gov I cannot fathom how she justifies this. Being disappointed with the congresswoman has just been par for the course since her reelection in 24.

The fact that they are weird losers that nobody likes doesn't mean they weren't high school bullies. The people who got bullied in high school were RARELY weird losers that nobody liked. They were super-cool people who either weren't afraid to be different or weren't able to hide their differences.

Apropos of nothing, I would like to point out that large companies whose business model is "serve words to the public" will typically pay between US $.10 and $3.00 per word. So when you give words to a company for free, you are in fact paying them a LOT of money.

First: Kudos, this is good -- however... I would rather see you take the money and do something useful with it -- pay your low level staff, donate to a local charity, stand outside the Capitol and hand money to furloughed workers. You can still be performative about it while being useful.
