What’s the right number of moves in a PbtA game? More moves make a more tailored experience and push players forward. I find a lot of moves requires a lot of rules referencing. And I like lighter weight games that encourage players creativity. Can one all encompassing roll replace them all?

Short thread on making traps interesting, instead of just a “gotcha!” 🧵. Think of traps like puzzles, rather than concealed dangers. The most fun part of handling a trap is figuring out how it works and how to bypass it or trigger it without getting hurt.

Also, if your players have not seen or have forgotten this, present them with it at the start of each session. It's been absolutely invaluable for me with 5e and helping players think of things to do other than "I, uh, try stab it?" Its interactive, so each thing can be clicked on for more info.

Possible hot take: I always found the word “moves” in #PbtA games confusing. Like I get it now, but coming from DnD it was so confusing. I feel like calling them “checks” is more clear. It borrows language most games use and for total beginners it stands for “check how successful you are”
