My god I am such a party pooper. I hate tame impala, think he’s a new level of musical terribleness.

Listening to a speaker with ECE experience on RNZ talk to the topic of kids arriving at primary schools unprepared in basic skills, and talk of ratios as high as 1:10 in ECE. What’s it like for a parent dropping their kid off to a place like that?

If you optimize a model to find exploits, you should expect it to find them—and prepare for that. OpenAI didn't. They built a model, removed the safeguards, gave it the ExploitGym task, let it run, and didn't even monitor it. That's human decision-making. mail.cyberneticforests.com/models-dont-...

Out dog walking this morning and my dogs found an eel caught on a hook and line
A piece of fishing rod juts out of a grassy bank over some river water. In the water underneath is the mouth of an eel and some crud in its mouth. There is a line from the rod to the eel and the eel is caught on a hook in the line

The fucking gentrification round these parts, honestly
A patch of lush grass in the centre is a broad mushroom cap on which someone has placed three plastic gaudy stars in a fit of childish whimsy presumablyA small pile of dog shit sits ona grass verge by a district painted fence but on the DOG SHIT someone, somehow, some reason, has planted a little flag on a cocktail stick like a claim on terra nullius

The thing that I think makes Akira a true cyberpunk classic isn't just the world, the design and visuals, or the animation, it's that there is no protagonist or antagonist, it's all people doing what people do. The events of the movie are as dictated by the characters as a tidal wave or hurricane.

Dolly Parton was an incredible human being. Her efforts to promote children's literacy, driving economic growth in her home state of Tennessee, and her open acceptance of the LGBTQ community meant so much to so many people. Fly high Dolly 💙

her very existence was an indisputable reminder of how many things framed as inevitabilities were actually just someone’s choice. there actually is enough money for everything. the wealthy could fully fund literacy and public health and the arts and child welfare. they just won’t

I'm thinking of where I've seen hopeful messages that engage young voters by promising them a better future and committing to material improvements to society in the last decade, and how studiously major parties ignore or oppose those politics.

Observed on a dog walk this morning. That dog must’ve been very very proud (Not my dogs, not my flag, etc)
A grass verge with a wooden painted fence on one side and a path then road on the other. Off in the distance are some buildings, electrical poles, parked cars and a morning sky.

Pic is taken low to the ground because on the grass in the foreground is a dog shit in which has been planted a little Aussie flag

The dog may have been a blue heeler breed on holiday visiting their kiwi cuzzies and was I assume proud enough of their efforts producing this art work

Bang on … and what does that do to your token usage as a bot-chat grows … and what are you going to be charged on… It’s still useful, like when I absolutely do not want to work on that Python problem, or fix that flaky test. But if you think it’s conscious, wait until you get the bill…

Loved Hamnet. Been avoiding it for ages, fearing a dreary drama or allowing my assumptions to be overfed on hype, but it lifted and held so much to be had by little old me from what was all on offer. Was in near tears at the end. The kids were amazing, the delivery of the expected play did so much
