In some places elites were markedly less homophobic than the public and helped drive a shift in public opinion. Support for decriminalization was 18% in the UK in 1957, when the extremely establishment Wolfenden report made it a public debate: by the time the law passed in 1967 it was 63%

He's basically a spoiler candidate at this point, he polls well for the first round but abysmally compared to the other left wing candidates in the second, even against le Pen

a) we have basically no evidence for anything around qualia, it's a famous philosophical problem b) it's not what OP is arguing but panpsychism is one of the more reasonable attempts to resolve this. I don't think even it's strongest proponents would claim it's well evidenced though - see a!

I don't have to edit AI written code that much, but I'm constantly editing the comments that it writes, and no amount of prompt wizardry seems to fix this.

Why do so many more people manage to get top grades in STEM A-Level subjects? Are STEM A-Levels just much easier?

Given how much importance is placed on "best practice", both in assigning and avoiding blame, it's quite surprising to go abroad and see different standard practices.

That's not to say that when they seem to be in conflict it isn't worth investigating, but it can be that the broader survey is highlighting people who aren't otherwise being seen

Tbh I don't really understand what the advantage of your teacher marking your exam is meant to be. I'm unlikely to ever speak to them again. If I've developed a particularly good relationship with them I'm not sure that should result in a better grade.

If you're going to use exams as an assessment tool, then generally we should want them to be impartial and fair, yes. Even some university exams try and do this by anonymising them to the extent possible.

Had exactly the same problem getting fibre installed (not in the UK). A series of guys arriving, taking a look, then saying they couldn't connect us. Eventually privately hired one of the same sort of guys to come after hours and sort it out.

Sure they eat the animals but it's an incredibly inefficient process. Eating fewer animals frees up an incredible amount of land/water

A fun and surprising fact is that there is actually plenty of water for human habitation in the southwest! In fact, Phoenix peaked in water use in the 1970s even though its population has exploded, because converting farmland to housing or industrial uses SAVES tons of water bsky.app/profile/jdba...

Loads of real issues with data collection and access but they a) apply to a LOT of other aspects of society b) are not particularly severe for cars since driving is already a public action c) extremely easily resolvable in the particular case of speed cameras (don't retain non speeding data)

There would have been less of the (racially motivated) media circus if Cambridge etc hadn't circled the wagons when they became aware of it. I also hadn't realised just how extensive the coverage in the UK rw press was.

Other countries now have more complex advice (e.g. Australia). It's still basically "wear sunscreen". They also have better sunscreen so it's not even as though the USA is that consistent about the importance of wearing it 100% of the time.

Goatly @goatgo.bsky.social · 10/08/2026
I think the sunscreen stuff might have started with a (mostly correct!) Outside Online article about the American official advice about sunscreen being a little absolutist and not taking a holistic view of health.

It's the same issue for new grads - for employers too small to have a dedicated grad program it's a lot of work and risk. You'd rather someone else took them for the first 12 months.

new issue of Vizier Monthly is out
a fake magazine cover with a cruelly smiling old woman in red vaguely Renaissance garb, leaning on a staff with a serpent twined around it. Headlines around her:
So He Saw The Strings: What To Do When Your Lord Thinks He's a Real Boy
Chalices, Knives, Nooses: How's a Girl to Choose?
Why Satraps Rebel: 10 Cautionary Tales
12 Moves For The Ambitious Concubine (and a 13th for the New Favorite!)
