Please please please stop making a big deal out of the G7 reserves release. Yes, it’s 100 million barrels over 4 months. We - the planet - use 100 million barrels of crude every…single…day. Almost literally a drop in the bucket.

More than ever, we need more walkable neighborhoods. The rapid rise of WFH and Covid generally breaking modern society means a *lot* of people touch grass way less often than they used to. A 20-minute walk, even to nowhere in particular, can do wonders.

It's just after 1pm on another picture perfect fall day in Chicago. So far today, masked federal agents have taken people from Brighton Park and suburban Aurora. ~1 year after the "Blitz" began, the alerts haven't subsided. ICE is still breaking windows and destroying worlds.

AP Stylebook warns against anthropomorphizing AI systems: “Avoid language that gives them human characteristics… Instead, explain what a system does, how well it performs, who built it and who could be affected by it.”
APStylebook @APStylebook

Artificial intelligence systems do not think, feel, want or understand. Avoid language that gives them human characteristics. This is called anthropomorphizing, when we ascribe human traits, emotions or behaviors to non-human things, such as animals or inanimate objects.
Instead, explain what a system does, how well it performs, who built it and who could be affected by it.

The key thing here is *certain* trips. You don't have to suddenly go car-free! But even replacing a handful of weekly car trips with a bike can lead to savings. Car dependency is a systemic problem, but at the same time, many people are in a position to make changes like this.

the best thing about being in my 40s by far has been the freedom to refer to anonymous guys in their late teens/early 20s as “kid” like Han Solo calls Luke in Star Wars. been waiting my whole life for this. worth every second. indescribable feeling of power.

Being in your 40s means you realize that the power to drive change lies in knowing how to assemble the right small group of guys (gender neutral) in the first place. It’s good to be the guy; it’s better to be the guy who knows a guy.

I'm amused by European (UK/Scotland) hotels openly offering hotel rooms that don't have any windows, and it's totally normal for them. I don't necessarily hate it, especially if it's for a quick overnight stay and it makes the price cheaper, but it's also kinda weird.

Maybe not a spicy take, but I would find more timestamped content (esp. screenshots of posts from other platforms) helpful in determining value, authenticity, actual timeliness of the info, etc. I want to know if I'm reading enraging content that's fresh or from a month ago, thanks.

Days like this, when my training run is especially grueling (5am start, 76-degree temp, high humidity), make me question why I do marathons, and I'm glad the options to add a 3rd marathon in October fell through.

This is demonstrably, measurably improving the health of the people who live there. Most notably, it increases the respiratory *& cognitive* health of children. They literally do better in school. If this country really gave a shit about children, this would be at the top of the public-policy list.
