Soft labor market. Smoothing through the monthly wiggles, over rhe past year the unemployment rate has been flat at 4.2%, about 1/2 ppt above the prepandemic level. And wage growth is soft.

It is still featured in the Risks and uncertainty section of the Tealbook and it captures channels that many/most macroeconomists think as being operative. I would take the signs and channels seriously, if not the magnitudes. Many models have interest rates affecting the dollar and consumption.

I was trying to make sense of Hammock's comments. Frequently poeple say Investment and really mean just the BFI portion, as shown by her examples. In the FRBUS model a rise in interest rates lower equity prices--and thus wealth and consumption. And it raises the value of the dollar lowering NX.

I think she thinks higher interest rates slow the economy, but the effect on investment is low, thus you have to rely more on the other channels like housing and wealth and the dollar. That assumes r affects equity prices and the exchange rate
